Hello. I recently bought a Egret 2. I wanted to install a MVS Motherboard to play all those Neo Geo cartridges. Does anyone have any suggestions on which MVS i should get? I was thinking of getting the MV-1C Single slot? Would this be a good choice? I want to get the best one all around. I dont want to run into any problems. Good sound quality and picture. If anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it. Below is a MVS chart for reference. Dont know what yes or no i would or would not need in the chart.

Easiest way would be an MV-1A, MV-1FZ or MV-1C , these will plug into your jamma connector and just work, 4 buttons off the jamma harness, and mono sound.

If you want a multi slot and stereo its a bit more work and expense, you'd need an MVS->JAMMA adaptor card for a start.

If you just want it quick and easy, go for one of the one slots mentioned above.

Hows the mono sound like? Crappy? Sound is a big factor for me. If theres a big difference then i would go for the stereo. Referring to the chart, which one would be with the stereo? Is there a single slot with stereo sound?

There are two single slot motherboards with stereo sound I believe, the MV1 although this has a few problems with some carts such as Rage of the Dragons (constant resetting), and the MV-1F, however its fine with 99% of carts. They have a stereo/mono switch and a custom molex connection which provides stereo, in your egret 2 you have a stereo JST connector down by the harness.

It'll look something similar to this:

awsd-stereoconnector.jpg

If you can knock up a custom adaptor/harness to attach the stereo output connector from the MVS to that, you can then have your stereo with a one slot.

After running Stereo MVS in my cab for a while now, I'll never go back to mono, it just sounds fantastic.

I was thinking of getting the 100 and 1 neo geo yellow cart for now. Do you know if this would work fine with one of these MVS u just mentioned? I sent you a picture below to show you what i believe is my stereo connector. Do you know what the other two are?

Yeah thats the stereo connector, the other two are for JVS (non JAMMA) systems, I'm not sure which though, 100-in-1 will work fine on a one slot but you should look at getting original carts ;)

Yeah i would rather have the original carts but there just too expensive. Maybe later down the line ill purchase some original carts. So if i were to get the MV-1 all i have to do i connect this stereo cable to get stereo sound and connect the jamma harness? anything else i may need to do to make it work?

If you can afford an egret 2 I'm sure you can afford nice original hardware to go in it :make_fac:

Just make sure all four buttons are wired on the jamma harness, and you'll have to make that adaptor up if you run in stereo, but you could run mono off the jamma edge for now until you do that anyway.

My two player buttons 1,2 and 3 are from the jamma harness. My 4, 5, and 6 buttons are coming form the kick harness. How do i wire my 4 button to the jamma harness? I plan to play the fighting games on neo geo too.

What do you mean when you say i have to make that adapter up?

You just wire button 4 up to the kick harness, and the 4th JAMMA wire.

You need to make an adaptor to connect the MVS stereo output connector to the stereo connector on your cab, I provided the pinout above.

Just get a one slot and plug it in and use mono from the JAMMA edge :make_fac:

I see what you mean but i dont understand. This is all new to me. i have never messed with any of this before. Can you explain step by step on what to do? Is there wires i need to purchase? Is there a video or something i can look at on youtube?

No, there isn't.

I've provided you with the pinout, all you need to do is make an adaptor that connects the pinout on the side of the MVS motherboard (the stereo connector) with the pinout on the connector I showed on your cab.

Ignore stereo for now, get yourself an MV-1F motherboard, if you want stereo in future, or just get an MV-1A/MV-1FZ and connect it directly to the JAMMA connector, wire up your 4th button and use the cab in mono.

Im sure ill figure it out. So now your telling me to get another type of MVS? Whats wrong with the MV-1? With the MV1-F i can get stereo in the future? I just rather have it all taken care of and get the stereo accessibility.

I've told you already whats wrong with the MV-1, it has compatibility issues with certain carts, or more the carts have compatibility issues with it.

As I also said a couple of posts before, get an MV-1F and deal with the stereo issue later.

Ok. MV-1F it is. Now to get one. How much do they go for?

$50-70

You don't see the older boards come up too much.

I have a 1 F in my e2. The stereo connects to that 4 pin connector near the headphone connector. It sounds amazing and super loud in stereo.

Another small consideration might be space. In my cabinet I have a wooden board that slides in/out for mounting PCBs that I put a adjustable PCB holder on. Ended up selling my 4-slot almost as soon as I bought it because it just didn't fit very well. :(

Ok so i got my MV-1F board. I see theres a stereo and mono switch. I connected my stereo adapter from my jamma harness to the speaker input on the board. When i do this seems like the sound drops a bit. Then i switch the mono switch to stereo and at a decent volume i get alot of crackling noise. As if the speakers can take the volume but its not even loud. Can somone tell me what im doing wrong? Im trying to get stereo sound.

I dont think the egret 2 has a stereo board in it, unless you or someone else put it in yourself. Mine certainly did not but it did have the connectors in there.

If the audio on normal jamma sounds bad it could just be a bad sound pot... does the static change (more/less) when you mess with the volume slider? Have you tried turning the volume down in the cabinet and up on the 1 slot and vice versa?

I dont think i have a stereo board. Sound works fine in mono. Sounds good. But i wanted to see what it sounded like in stereo. When i set the switch to stereo, Ive tired moving the slider real low. It doesnt crackle. But when i put to close to the middle it does. This is when i have it to stereo.
