My cab has a 6 button Capcom style layout and comes with a pre-wired kick harness (the cab came with a Mortal Kombat 4 PCB, so my guess is that it uses the same kick harness Capcom uses).

Can someone please suggeset me a decent fighting game that can be installed into my cab without any problems? I am avoiding CPS2 games though because of the suicide thing.

Thanks in advance!

I'd love an Atomiswave with Hokuto no Ken :)

What button layout does this game use?

Major Options Here

Don't trash that MK 4 PCB that would piss me off...lol You can go with some other fighter such as KI 1 and 2, Street Fighter EX, CPS 3 system, UMK 3, ETC. You can probably also squeeze a Hyper 64 in there as well.

I'm not a big fan of CPS 2 games and I am sure that I will catch some hell for it. Your kick harness probably won't accommodate a cps 2 or 3 game easily...The CPS 2/3 kick harness is a little different from my knowledge. I run my KI'S and MK'S with a CPS 1 kick harness.....I have an adapter for those other games....If you need an adapter LMK since I have a spare around....I have a few game boards that might work well in that cab on the Zelda forum....

Mortal Kombat 2, Best fighting game of all time. I don't know what kind of problems you might run into converting to it but they would be worth it for an MK2 cab.

If you want a good starter fighter I would go with marvel vs capcom. If you actually have money MVC2

Samurai Shodown 2 is always a blast, very fun old school game to play against friends. And cheap at that. Last Blade is also always a good bet.

As I previously said, my cab originally had an MK4 PCB (It was removed prior to delivery to me) - the kick harness for the said game is still wired. Anyone knows of this kick harness would be compatible with CPS2, and if not, with which games it would work?

Thanks!

Just take it out and put a CPS2 kick harness in, you of anyone could do that, its hardly difficult ;)

Does this involve soldering? Or perhaps, is there an adapter for Midway to CPS2 connector?

Dude what the hell, you build superguns and sticks yet you can't solder a quick disconnect to a wire and slide it on a button?

Most fighters I would suggest outside MVS are on CPS2, so I'm not sure what to tell you if you don't want to do some work and rid the security.

Buy a CPS2 kick loom and rewire it. 5 minute job. Then the choices are nearly endless.

Also, there is absolutely no reason to avoid CPS2. If the battery dies, just send the prog roms off to Raz and get it phoenixed. Some of mine are phoenixed, some aren't and it doesn't worry me one bit. If the battery goes, I'll just get it phoenixed. Fast easy and cheap.

My top 2 picks are Zero 2 Alpha and Turbo: Hyper Fighting. I will never ever tire of either.

Ok - I decided to redo the control panel part, like this:

A B C D
D E F

'D' is being repeated for correct use of both Neo Geo and CPS2 games.

One question... will 'D' on the Neo Geo harness work with a CPS2 game, or 'D' from a CPS2 board comes from the kick harness?

Cheers

Depends on the game. 6-Button CPS2 games get the the latter 3 buttons from the Kick-Harness. But some games, like D&D, get the 4th button off the JAMMA Harness like Neo-Geo and use the Kick-Harness for extra players.

Your best bet for total compatibility is to have buttons 1-5 wired to the JAMMA Harness and additionally have 4-6 wired to a molex connector (that you can attach different kick-harnesses to).

Electricgrave wired up my Mini Cute this way, so I can easily plug in an AW (5 buttons off the JAMMA Harness) or a SSF2X on CPS2 (3 off the JAMMA, 3 off the Kick) and it's it just goes right in without having to move any connectors. The AWSD & E3 cabinets are also wired like this from the factory, which is very handy.

Hope that helps. And if it doesn't.. here's a super-technical schematic I did in AutoCad:

As Kickin' Wing said, CPS2 games use a seperate harness for buttons 4-6. The two D&D games are the exception, with a 4th button on the jamma harness, but that will be covered by your Neo button D anyway afaik. I would have it like this:-

1/A 2/B 3/C 4/D
LK MK HK 5(AW)

So thats jamma 1-3 and Neo D on the top row, cps2 kicks and an extra button 5 on the bottom row for atomiswave and other oddities (MK?). Imo there is no real point in connecting the LK button to Neo D too. If you have the room then for me this is the way to go for complete compatability, I have my supergun stick this way.
