I know others are probably better experts at degrees of movement and response times and all, but the main issue for my personal gaming is "feel".

I played big reds in the early 90s arcades with Happs and that burned into my memory. I can't imagine any other stick on a big red. The competition sticks are just the right height and spring movement for those memories to come flooding back. On my mini cab, I installed Supers instead as the shorter shaft fits better for the downsized experience of playing a smaller cab.

However, the feel on the Japanese cabs is entirely different. I've been fortunate to experience a lot of Sanwas at Dave K's Shmupmeets and, while they feel nice, I personally prefer Seimitsu sticks on candies. The "click" just feels more powerful, just like when you watch the Fast and the Furious and the shift of the gear shaft produces that unreal click during the car races.

Stupid explanation? Probably. But that's my "feel" and everybody will probably have their own.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

I know a lot of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 players prefer Happ sticks. Not entirely sure why, something to do with the fact that the tighter spring in them snaps it back to center position faster, which apparently helps in that game.

I don't mind them personally but I think I'd have a hard time going back to Happ sticks now. I haven't regularly visited an arcade in well over a decade and the only sticks I've used in recent years are Sanwa on home arcade sticks.

Happ controls are for disabled people, they are even made out of the correct plastic.

I prefer happs just because that is what I grew up with at the arcades playing Street Fighter, etc. I don't have alot of experience with the JP sticks but I am sure they are nice. At some point I will have to make a JP stick.

I tend to prefer the Sanwas in my vertical JAMMA cab, but then I don't play fighting games very often. If I had to guess I'd probably still prefer Sanwas over the Competitions I had in my last cabinet. Not sure about the Perfect 360s, but I like my joysticks to click unless I'm playing a classic that originally had a leaf stick.

Completely a matter of personal preference I guess.

Can't comment on Seimitsus vs. Sanwas personally.

Give me a few games to adjust and i'll play any of em. I def prefer Sanwa buttons and Seimitsu sticks these days. But after playing Super Turbo for a while on the Astro City I went to a friends house and played a few rounds on his Dynamo. Felt great, like going back home or something.

Happ sticks because that's what I grew up with. Plus making motions like shoryukens and so on don't always come out right for me when using Sanwa sticks. 'course if the cab is a Japanese style cab I will keep Sanwa/Seimitsu sticks/buttons on there.

seimitsu's all the way. The buttons of sanwa/seimitsu are nearly identical, but the LS series of sticks is far and away leagues above Sanwa.

I used to prefer Happ, but I am starting to prefer sanwa for lapsticks. Happ feels right in an arcade cab, but sanwa feels better on a custom or store stick. Also, most people I build joysticks for seem to prefer sanwa.

I'm a Seimitsu fan, LS-32 all the way for the stick. Buttons could be either Sanwa or Seimitsu, they both play nicely.
