Alright folks, it drops on Wednesday for 1,200 points. Who else will be playing? Shoot me an invite on Live if you haven't already. Can't wait to play it again, last time I played Virtua On was at a shitty arcade and the one player side didn't work right.

Even without the Twin Sticks, I'm still excited about playing this again. So post back and we can set up some games this week.

I'll likely snag it.

Haven't touched this series since I had it on my DC.

Won't be the same without Twin Sticks but should still be a good time.

Played it for about 10 minutes before I had dinner and I could see a ton of people already have 100 matches under their belts already.

I only won one match, but I just need to get the hang of the controls, it's nothing like what I remember in the arcade with the twin sticks.

Haven't played any online matches yet. Trying to get a feel for everything before I do, so I've been focusing on Score Attack. Currently have over 5.9 million points there.

I was an idiot and didn't see they had a Twin Stick option in the menu. So you play it like the old game, with tank controls and you go left and right to jump. Fire buttons are all the same.

I just need to figure out what mech is good and which isn't. I used to use the Magical Girl robot, (Which I made look like Super Sailor Moon and it looks hilarious) but she dies in only a few hits, so I'm trying to use the bigger ones with more firepower.

Have you actually tried to get in any ranked matches yet?

Sheeeeit. I tried to get in at least 10 lobbies or so last night, and not one let me in, "unable to join" every time. Weird.

Anyway, great emu, very fun, dual stick option works great. My Grys-Vok felt like riding a bike...

edit: also, the achievements are among the easiest of any XBLA game. I had like 8 of 12 and 140 points in about an hour (first 6 in 10 min), would have had more if I could have got in a lobby.

Twin Stick control option works great.

I'm honestly surprised how well that control scheme was presented in this.

Played a few online matches and people kicked my fucking ass to Mars and back.

Damn fun though.

I was just reading up the move lists of this on GameFAQs and totally forgot how involved this game could be...

Yeah, I tried a few. Had the same problems you did. The lobby is also your game hosting screen, so if you just hang out in the lobby for a while, someone will challenge you.

Also, finally configured the controls to my liking. I'm used to VO on Saturn, so I adjusted the controls to be like that somewhat. Wish there was a Saturn pad for the 360 though. Score is over 6.3 million now. I feel confident enough to start playing online more.

On the positive side you can play Japanese players with no lag whatsoever.

On the negative side they're really fucking good and will beat your ass with ease.

I'm really enjoying playing this game again. Any tips on how to win online? I'm pretty terrible.

Virtual On is great. Its return, a blessing. But also a curse! See, part of what made Virtual On so great in the arcades was the game's twin-stick controller. Which the Xbox 360 doesn't have.

Even the Dreamcast version had a nice twin-stick peripheral for home use, but on 360, you're stuck using the control pad. Which might make things difficult. Oh, unless you're this guy (or somebody who follows his lead).

Two candy sticks, some buttons, a quick wiring job and you're good to go.

Awesome.

I got it, and boy the achievements are easy. I'm a total Virtual On virgin, yet I was able to get 11 of the 12 achievements within a day. Just nine more ranked matches, and I'll have all 200 points. :buttrock:

Boy, Sega sure is giving the XBLA major love. Between this, OutRun, and the rumored slate of Genesis classics, it's great. :buttrock:

Just made it to Sergeant with 50 wins and 25 losses. Score Attack score is now over 7.5 million. It seems like the more I play VOOT, the more I prefer VOOM and Senko no Ronde. VOOT's pacing can get a bit too crazy sometimes.

I felt the Twin Stick controls were glitchy to me and switched back to type A. It has made the game more fun since I am not getting "stuck" anymore.

Virtual On. Or if you want to be really anal about the transliteration, "Virtua Ron" or "Virtua Lon."
