I need to get some games my girlfriend would play and know my game vocabulary might not be as great as the collective mind that is 'Neo-Geo Forums'.

My collection is almost exclusively fighting games and is a bit daunting when you've never even heard 'Dragon Punch' before.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Disclaimer: I know that games are fun regardless of cute characters, bright colors, or game style. It's really the only way I can think of describing what it is I am looking for.

Puzzle games are always a "girl" fave. My wife likes Bust a Move and Money Puzzle Exchanger on the Neo. Magical Drop, Puzzle de Pon, Tetris, Columns and the many other games out there like them. Some girls also like fighters though. I've found the trick to getting a girl or talentless friend to like a game is to go easy on them. :D

Kero Kero King (PSX, PS2, GC) is a good one. It was released as Ribbit King in the US for PS2.

Top Hunter might be good. it's a two player co-op adventure game. simple enough for a novice, but offers a couple cool "moves" familiar to fighting fans.

Well if you want to pick up something in the classic games department, the usual favorites from what I've seen are puzzle and pattern games with non violent themes or are some what abstract. So Centipede, qbert, pengo, pac man, and mappy I've seen girls like pretty well. Also games like bubble bobble and platformers with a good theme and catchy music go over fairly well. Blue's Journey got some play from girls when I had that, as well as puzzle bobble, and puzzle de pon. Crazy taxi seems to attract girls as well.

MVS:

Zupapa!
Bust-A-Move EX2

Competitive can be cool, but cooperative non-repetitve games (not beatemups) work great.

If your girl is kind of competitive you might try BangBead.

My girl's a hockey fan so she wants to play that more often than not.

Thanks for all the recomendations.

Bust-A-Move is certainly on the list.
Bubble Bobble was one of my all time favorite NES games. I'd want it for the collection regardless of whether she would enjoy it. But dont tell her that.
Columns have been recommended by other friends of mine. I never played it so I its an 'experimental' game on the list.

I am making a list of all of these and keeping an eye out.
Thanks for all the recommendations thus far!

I have a theory that most girls prefer games with 0-1 buttons.

If we are talking about arcade stuff here...

Bust A Move / Puzzle Bobble series for sure.
Bubble Bobble and it's sequels, and clones (Snow Bros.)
Pac-Man / Ms. Pac Man.
Buster Bros.

Friend of the female persuasion that I have seems to get a kick out of the Diet Go Go PCB I have, likely due to it playing like a Snow Bros. / Bubble Bobble clone, but I think it's a bit more than that, as that game is just a bit unusual.

Culdcept on PS2 and Culdcept Saga on 360 seem to be an interesting title as well for one of my friends. Plays like Monopoly mixed with cards and summoning creatures / casting spells. I actually really like this myself anyway.

I would agreeo with Xian Xi and say Uo Poko too. They like stuff that doesn't require a lot of button pressing.
