Can anyone tell me if there is a step-by-step guide (with photos) (similar to Xian Xi's guide for consolizing a 2-slot) for doing the direct RGB mod on an AES? The mod where you keep the composite out through the A/V DIN port.
I've read threads about it but I can't seem to follow what to do.
Also, is it worth getting a temperature-controlled iron for mods like RGB and consolizing? they start about $AU70. I'm pretty good with the basic el-cheapo 25W iron(used it to install a socket on an AES).

An old member made one a long time a go. If you search for RGB bypass you can find it easily.

And yes buy a temp controlled soldering iron.

where do u get those gold phono jacks u use in your consolized 2-slots? do they have to be good ones or will any brand do?
in the 2-slot guide, what do u mean by a +5v@3A Power Supply? a power adaptor like the ones used for the AES?
what does +5v mean? 5 volt with positive polarity?

so u mean a +5v power adaptor similiar to an AES one? at the moment I'm using a PC power supply with my supergun (which is obviously much more cumbersome).

how do i mod it to have an RGB out (eg it could be an 8-pin DIN connector to SCART cable)?

are the JROK encoders hard to install- do u need to know what you're doing? is it easy or hard to mess it up and damage the pcb?
i would probably use one of the PAL JROK's with component as well as RGB & composite. or without a JROK i'd just have RGB tapped from the jamma connector as your guide indicates.
can u still use the PCB in arcade machine after following the 2-slot guide? thanks for your help.

THe JROK and Neobitz are both a breeze to install. And yes the 2 slot is still useable in a cab.

Xian Xi- should I get an NTSC or a PAL JROK encoder? If I did eventually sell the consolized 2-slot it might be to someone locally or in PAL region, or but it would be better if I could also sell it to someone in the US. As far as the outputs go, I'm only really going to use RGB and component, so I'm not so concerned about s-video and composite quality.

Does the NTSC color system affect component and s-video(as well as composite)? I know that RGB is not affected. The NTSC colour system is not as good as PAL's. ie. how does NTSC component and s-video compare to PAL component & s-video?

I'm pretty sure they're the same, you just send ground or +5v to a pin to choose the output. I could be wrong. Choose what your TV displays dude.

well they seem to sell the NTSC and PAL JROK's as separate devices on arcadeshop.com. They wouldn't be able to do both PAL and NTSC?
do u mean NTSC component and PAL component are the same picture quality?

If i got a PAL JROK, would the component and s-video work with a US TV, or do all TVs in the US have problems accepting PAL input?
