Playstation problem with audio

Hi, I have a modded Playstation (Model 7501 made in February 1999) and after playing it for over an hour the audio seems to pop. Is this normal? Do Playstations have to be turned off ever hour or so in order for them to work correctly? I play Castlevania on it then after an hour the audio just starts to pop and it gets worse so I am forced to turn it off. Can anyone help me out? <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

I've never heard of this one before. Does it only do it on certain games or all of them?

I only ever owned 1 PSX at a time, but I had that bitch covered under a 2yr. warranty from EB and had to use it 3 times. I even extended it an extra year to cover me until the PS2 came out... and the damn thing went up that time as well.

It sounds like it's a problem with your system (doesn't help that Sony makes SHIT quality products) and you should probably look into getting a new one if you're interested in continuing to play you PSX games. Local imprt shop sells modded PS1's (used) for $40. They do the mod for like $15-20

Alright, I'll help.
You haven't fully explained your problem, however.

Before I can safely say that your Playstation has an audio problem, I need to know if you've experienced this problem on more than one set of speakers. Do said speakers do this with any other hardware?

If you've tried it on different speakers and it still has the problem, your PS1 is overheating. It's common, don't freak out.

If you look hard enough, you can find a used PS1 for around $30. You can buy one new at $50. You won't be out much money because of this, at least.

It is the same set of speakers. I have used these speakers for years. The TV is a Sony Trinitron made back in 1989. I had the A/V's in the back replaced (they went bad) with some new ones. I watch TV on it and there is no audio problem. The problem happens when I use the system for more than an hour. The tracks on Castlevania start to pop at the end before they begin the new tracks. Then after awhile they just pop completely. I thought the disk might be damaged but that isn't the case. I cleaned it just to be sure but nothing different happens. I used some dust off spray on the CD laser lens to clean off any dust so that can't be it. Do you have any idea what is going on? By the way, I just got this unit recently from a certain individual...

I put a computer fan under the Playstation and I was able to use it for over an hour without an problem. It is one of those mainframe computer fans - big airflow. :)
