Can't get C button to work ...

I've got my control panel wired up to the controller ports on my MV1 board (use the board with a supergun so using the controller ports instead of the Jamma connection).

For some reason no matter what I do I can't get the C button to work.

I've used a continuity tester to check the connection between the contact on the button and the pins on the controller cable. Also checked the continuity on the ground connection. Everything else on the panel works fine (only a 1 player panel).

Also tried both the 1P and 2P controller ports on the board.

I'm wiring it to pin 12 on the DB15, which according to Gamesx.com is correct.

Anything I might be missing?

Check the connection of the board from the port to the jamma edge for continuity. Its not working in either port you say?

Yeah, both ports give no C button. I'll check the continuity to the Jamma edge.

Ok, continuity to the Jamma connection is fine. Can you give me quick run through on clearing the backup RAM? I'm thinking you do it on the hardware test screen, but not exactly sure.

Flip dip 1 then turn on the board. Keep hitting start(might be A) until you get to the clear backup ram screen and foolow the directions on screen.

I have a test mode button also, I can just use that to get to the same screen right? Or is it only accessible via the DIP.

I'm thinking what you're talking about is the green screen w/all the RAM info. I've seen it but always skip it during the hardware test.

Out of curiosity, I won't have to use the C button to reset it right? Because I know I need to use that to exit the hardware test.

Yes it is :A:+:B:+:C:

But first... you might want to go into the hardware test screen (just hit your test switch) and go to the second page (by tapping start) and you should be at hte hardware test... check your buttons there to see if they register... does :C: register there?

I think I did test that the other night, but I'll try again. I know the C button doesn't work during the first part of the test screen that lets you exit, but I'll test it out tonight.

Ok, sorry for the late reply, just had a chance to get back to this.

In Hardware test mode, no C button does not register.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- swapping the button with a new one

- re-soldering wires

- check all continuity (everythings fine)

-Tried both 1p and 2p

Last week I also plugged an AES controller into it to play some Sidekicks. Worked fine then.

Now, nothing.

Unfortunately I don't have the AES controller anymore to test...

Try flipping all dips on then boot it. Sometimes a work ram test does the trick even though it shouldn't. If that don't work then desolder the battery and let the board sit.

So I rebooted into the 'work ram test' screen. How long does this take, or am I going to get a message when it's finished? Or do I just go ahead and restart.

Hmmm, it's been a while since I did one. All I remember is it will say work ram test on the screen. When I used to do mine I just left it on for 20 minutes since no one told me what was going to happen either. Then I flipped the dips off and rebooted.

Yeah, I left it on for about 30 minutes before rebooting. Still nothing.

I could use a link to some info on removing the battery. Haven't done it before, but it shouldn't be too difficult, I can solder fairly well.

My board is an MV1

You sure there isn't any bad traces to and from the C button pin on the board? Or maybe a pin that's grounded?

Not that I can find, but I didn't have a lot of time today to look at it. I'll have more time tomorrow and I'll check everything again.

I'm using the controller ports here, so it seems strange that both ports have the same issue. That tells me that there is something somewhere on the board that is grounded or has a short.

Hopefully I can find something tomorrow.
