So I picked up my Robotron 2084 cab last weekend and spent this week doing minor cleaning like getting rid of some spider webs, dust, grime, and scuffs; still have more to do. I also swapped out a newer pair of sticks as the other pair need cleaning and didn't match each other as well. It also came with all of the paperwork/operation manual from what I'm aware of.

Far view of the machine on.

Closer view and lighting can be seen clearer. Need to get the blue lights beneath the player 1 + 2 start buttons.

My not-so-great job on the control sticks. The previous setup had the wires soldered to the micro-switches, something I wanted to avoid having again. I'll need to clean it up sometime if it begins to act up, but is quite stable for the moment.

Picture of some gameplay, though blury.

The plan:
Continue to get better at Robotron 2084 since I finally have the machine to work off of rather than the console ports or emulation.

Repair the base of the machine as some of the wood is splitting and paint has pealed or rubbed off. Touch-ups will need to be done on the sides.

Eventually replace the CPO as it has cigarette burns from the previous owners smoking and playing without enough caution. One of the blue start buttons will need to be replaced and need to find out why the blue lights underneath aren't turning on (the lights do work, just aren't receiving power).

Complete the link between the coin-op and bin for if I decide to put this baby into operation someplace, which is unlikely but always nice to have available as a coin bank.

Nice cabinet as it is getting harder to find original game cabs from that error, most of them being sacrificed by the conversion gods :(

On the lights for the blue buttons, see if the correct type of light bulbs are in them. IIRC they're the same type that are also in the coin slots and are mainstream bulbs in Williams pinball machines (#44 but totally not sure about that).

Again...nice Robotron find :buttrock:

I was at an arcade party last night and I was hogging the Robotron cab. Good times and good find. :)

Thanks. It's actually one of two Robotron 2084 machines I've seen in the area. Maybe it's because private owners clutch onto them or I had been looking in the wrong places? So I went ahead and picked it up while it was available.

Dennis has one still on a pallet from original delivery to his arcade back in the day as well as a stargate and a defender...all sitting alone in a storage unit waiting for a buyer...too rich for me...

Amazing find, she looks good! I would love to own a robotron cab one day, plus Wizard of Wor and Mortal Kombat 1 (I don't know what it is about that machine, but I want it so bad...maybe because when I first saw it I almost pissed my pants and stayed out of arcades for months because of it). Can't wait to see it when you get it all fixed up! How much did you pay?

Great looking cab, looks to be in remarkable shape for its age. Congratulations on the find.

Thanks again.

Nice cab!! I saw your thread on the dp forums.
Yeah, some of the locals on here don't frequent the DP forums so a double post helps get the info out. :)

With the new sticks it's playing rock solid and more comfortable than the red ball sticks as I use the inside cusp of my hand for directions in Robotron rather than my finger tips. I may clean up the old ones and use them for something else later.

As for the price, it was $450. I plan on holding onto the machine for a long time and it will get plenty of play, so well worth it. Thus far buddies and family have taken at it, but are unfamiliar with the game so it should be interested when more experienced players can kick up the high score for me to compete against. I am planning to have this machine hit the road maybe for MAGFest next year; I'll have to see.

Topher,
I believe you've spoke of Dennis before and am not suprised. I would like to get my hands on those, but am sure they're out of my range (well into the $1000's?). For that price I sure could use a truck to help haul this stuff around.

What a great price! I remember playing robotron with my father a lot on our commodore 64. We had the cart instead of the disc....that version was almost arcade perfect! Ahh do I love me some C64. I would love to play that cab again, its been quite a long time!

I think so. Never got an official price, he just hinted around at what he wanted for them. I think he knew I didn't have the scratch he wanted.

Looking forward to getting my hands on that cab sometime soon.
