Hi all, I recently purchased a Neo AES system but had to purchase a second joystick separately on ebay (neostore.com still doesn't have any of the old joysticks available). :( It appears I have a bad select and A button on one of them. Has anyone ever taken these apart and been able to repair one? The only place I can find another joystick is at Buy-Rong and I really don't want to shop with them.

I had a problem with the select button also (after being pressed it couldn't be released). I opened the case, unscrewed the small plate where the select and start buttons are located and made it fit the holes better, that's it. Just open it up yourself and you'll see that it's an extremely simple device (just a few switches in there)...

Yes, it IS simple. Unfortunately 90% of the time the repair is not. If its a bad joint inside - woohoo! solder it back on. If its a bad microswitch, replace it. BUT, normally this is a faulty wire somewhere in the cable (often the connector end). In this case, get a new cable, or you may be lucky enough to strip it down and put a new connector on (UGGGG-LLLYYY!!!).

Best bet often is a new stick. Lotsa places should do them. check some of these out:

good luck!

Phoenix, in order to check this you can do a continuity test with a multimeter.

Hey thanks for the info everybody. MKL, I tried your suggestion of opening it up and making sure everything fits better. I couldn't see any problems with the wires, and since I did that all the buttons are working perfectly. So I guess it was just the plastic cover causing problems then...
