I could be a woody cab owner soon (buying one or getting one made) and was wondering which joysticks would be best for Neo Geo use, specifically fighters. I don't really want to put Sanwa/Seimetsu on it as it would be like putting alloy wheels on a 1930s automobile :)

Thanks :buttrock:

Contact Electricgrave, he made an awesome post highlighting the differences/ pros and cons of each joystick, a while back. I found it extremely helpful and accurate as far as the few joysticks I've tried out.

Here we go again...let the debate begin.

Happ competition sticks and buttons all the way.

If the cab is a dedicated MVS Big Red, then the cab will be wood, but the control panel will be made of metal. I found that out when I just got my Big Red.

In that case, if you get Happs they will stick out a little longer then they usually would on a wooden control panel. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but to me that's bad.

The Happ Competition, the one I like to use, as well as the Super comes with three grooves on the metal stick, one groove is for a wooden control panel another for metal. But I can't, for the life of me, get the stick to push far dawn enough to reach the third groove. I could never do that either with my sticks that use Happs that I play with consoles. Why in the world they would make three grooves, and only two are usable, is beyond me. If anybody has gotten to that third groove, the one closest to bat top, I would appreciate it if they'd tell me about it.

I have to figure out some modification so as to lower the joysticks a little.

Anyways, if the control panel is metal, there a lot of possibilities open to you. If it is wood, I think you would need some modification to use jap sticks.

What do you guys think of these Sanwa sticks... they would look good enough in a woody I guess:

Those sanwa's are what I have in my 4 slot woody and I love them. I can't stand happ for fighting games (I like them for some games...). They mount the same way as the happ so no worries there.

If you've ever thought that happ are too "springy" the Sanwa with bat top are the way to go. They feel like happ but better.

Although that CP is crowded a bit with a spinner and a trackball I still think it looks supernice. Those JLW's are nice, but on a dedicated Neo MVS US cab I prefer the supers, ofcourse you have to use the shorter shaft (made for metal cp's) in order to reach the lowest cleareance. I find the height extremely comforateble in this case unlike the competition sticks which have only one height setting and thus are a bit uncomfortable. IMO The JLW's are nice if used with oval gates as the freedom feels like the sticks used in the cab originally.

The original sticks used in the US MVS cabs are styled like the supers, but instead of having a shaft cover, the shaft was engineered with 2 dift thicknesses, there was only metal CP lenght and there was only one groove, but basically it was a super as all the other aspects of the stick are still made the same way.
