AES does not work with LCD?

Hi, im having a problem with my AES on my new LCD 42" TV. The picture signal jumps randomly.

From what i've understood the AES only gives a scanlined-signal that new TVs can't fully understand? Is this true and can this be fixed in any way possible? That is without buying an old tv :D

I managed to freeze the picture when the signal jump happened:

The signal is perfectly clear for most of the time but once about every minute or so, the signal does that kind of a weird "jump" as pictured. And this happening a few times every minute is really annoying...

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The Neo's sync rate is not exactly 60hz so some TVs don't like it and do that, especially LCDs. There are a few brands that display it perfectly though. If you are able to adjust the sync scan rate on the TV you should adjust it to about 59.18hz for the Neo.

Thank you for a fast reply, this sounds interesting and i will have to look if its possible to change the rate from the service menu.

Could this also be the reason for my Sega Megadrive(Genesis) having the same issue?

And yes, i have tested both consoles on an old CRT-screen and they work flawlessly. Also SNES and NES work just fine on the new LCD.

I dont think the mega drive has the same sync problem but if it doesnt work with your megadrive also it could be something else. Is your LCD able to accept both PAL and NTSC? And is your Megadrive PAL or NTSC? I'm guessing NTSC.

I had this problem with my neo also, but running the video through an XRGB2+ and outputting it to the tv over a vga cable fixed it.

Yes it is capable, as you can see from the photo it recognizes the AES as NTSC RGB signal, and funnily enough, the Megadrive is PAL RGB ;D

Jaelus: Yeah that has been recommended for me also, but are they still insanely priced? like 300$ or so?

Are you using an official RGB>SCART cable for the Neo?

I'm pretty sure it's just your TV. I think an XRGB would be best as well.

Hi again,

any chance of solving the problem by converting the signal to HDMI?

e.g.
http://www.cypconverters.com.au/video-scalers/cs-720phd.html
this converter is a lot cheaper and easier to come by than an XRGB2+.

Does anyone have any experience on these? Do they convert the signal from the 59hz and is the quality still good? Any lag?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would get the XRGB2 and not the Plus model since the XRGB2 was made for PCBs or any video output devices with odd vsync.

Might not be of much help, but I finally got an AES yesterday and the rgb scart cable works fine with my samsung syncmaster t240hd, much to my relief. My 1 slot via supergun is a different matter though...

Got my Cypress RGB to HDMI converter, and suprisingly it is at least as far as i can tell, completely lag free.

http://www.cypress.com.tw/product.php?PId=78012&CId=005&CName=Video Scalers&SR=0

I contacted the customer support and they claim its about 1ms of lag, and i couldn't notice any delay in inputs when playing Blazing Star, Real Bout 2 or Shock Troopers and performing quick manouvers or special moves.

This still did not completely fix my jumping signal issue :D it only softens it considerably. All games are playable now, the signal still jumps but the effect is really small now, it just like vibrates a little every once in awhile.

This converter doesn't have any settings or menu´s, only a 50hz/60hz switch that does nothing when using an AES.

I can recommend this converter to anyone who has similar problems or just wants to get the Neo hooked up with HDMI.
