I just got a Neo CDZ from tomcat, and I'm concerned about frying the board over time if I don't use a 120 to 100v step down converter. Should I be? I can't find a definitive argument either way.

i think i read in another thread that unplugging the CDZ after use is helpful to prevent burnout? not sure about the step down though...

edit: but when i think about, it doesnt seem like it would hurt. if keeping your cdz in top shape is concern, it might be worth it anyways to be completely safe.

I am sure the CDZ would have a 5v regulator which would prevent any damage from occurring.

In either case if you were going to do anything you would replace the power supply instead of stepping down for it.

Well, I decided that I'd rather be safe than sorry and put down my $25 for a nice 100W stepdown. I found a couple of accounts of people using the CDZ normally and having it overheat, then using a step down and having it work fine.

Thanks for the help!

I use a stepdown on my front loader. Figured it couldn't hurt. I actually use it for all my JP game systems...why not?

The only issue with not using a stepdown is the voltage regulator inside the console receives slightly higher voltage. This is not a problem.

The only circuit being subjected to more voltage than designed is AC to DC converter inside the power plug.

...but according to multiple people on this forum, it can be a problem with the CDZ. Again, better to be safe than sorry.
