Don't know why I put up with it so long. I mainly have to play in dark just so I can see the dumb screen.

here's some examples of what it looks like. Keep in mind these aren't teh best pics, but the monitor just doesn't look bright. Even when I mess with the knobs... I can't get it the way a normal monitor should be. It's not sharp and not colorful.

One of the screws on the flyback (screen) may brighten it up. The other kob is for focus. Try that and see. You'd probably have to fiddle with the contrast setting later.

if your contrast and brightness does not give you good definition then all likeliness the crt guns are worn out-only fix for that is a crt rejuvenator and they are a short term solution

Actually there is...the knob marked 'blk level' is the brightness knob and is used in conjuction with the 'contrast' knob. Also as mentioned, there's also a brightness knob in the back of the monitor, along with a focus one (the ones you circled in your last picture to the left).

Its important to realise the difference between the Screen Voltage and a brightness control.

Unless absolutely necessary, the screen voltage should not be used to adjust brightness.

Have you repalced the caps on the chassis? I've seen this make monitors look a lot better.
