6-Slot MVS' are duds?

I've heard from a few threads that the 6-Slot MVS board is likely to stuff up more than the others.

How is this so?

I got my 6-slot a month ago and it hasn't played up yet. Considering that the games I keep in it are pretty old, it works perfectly for me ( keep my carts in very good condition).

6 Slots have the reputation for having one or more slots go bad. Not sure why.

6 Slots are known by some Overheating issues, wich is the main reason that users prefer the 4 Slot version over the 6-Slot one. 6-Slot ones are also harder to fit inside a cabinet.

Thanks for the info.

Ah well, I suppose if it did stuff up completley, I could always get a new one on eBay.

I have owned two six slots for about a year now and have had no probs except for a bad jamma connection, the supply tracks get hot and eventually toast and carbonize, having fixed that issue they now work fine with all slots.

Its simple:
Compared to a 4 slot a 6 will have 50% more chance of having a problem with a slot.
Overall reliability will be much the same IMHO.

Hi

This could be just the right thread to help with my problem, I have two six slot boards and a hyper 64 all in the same cab linked via a muiltijamma, on setup everything worked fine, however after it had been switched off for the night and I come to play the next day one of the six slots has lost all it's settings such as date, time and mainly the select button, everything else is working fine so I am now starting to think it could be the board thats faulty, I was just wondering before I start taking it apart wether these boards have a battery on like a PC bios battery that stores the settings, and if so are they replaceable, I have read the manual but there is no mention of anything, I am starting to think that it may be a battery problem as once I set the board up it works fine until it is switched off for a while.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

There is a 3.6 volt 50mAH replaceable solder mount pcb Ni-Cd battery on the bottom board.
These board sets are now 10 years or so old, chances are thats your problem, its worth checking them periodicaly anyway as they tend to sweat onto the board and cause corrosion problems.

Thanks alot for the info, i'll take it out and have a good look at it tonight, see if I can see any problem areas, also I am guessing it's ok to replace the battery if this is the problem.

Yes replace the battery, its not like a CPS2 board that "suicides" when you take out the battery.
Ive run my boards with the battery disconnected for some time.
Be carefull when installing the new battery, there is not much clearence between the top of the battery and the underside of the top board, make sure it is insulated to prevent shorting.
