I picked up soul edge for cheap on ebay and didn't' even think of a kick harness for it. I asked good ol' bob if he has one and said no.

I'm wondering could I just pick up a Jamma connector put in two keys and cut it down to size? or do any of you know where i can pick up a kick harness for soul edge?

if it's like Soul Calibur [which is what I have] that second edge connector off to the side is where the extra buttons come from. Since there are only 2 extra buttons for Soul Edge/Calibur, I just soldered a wire from that side over to the main JAMMA edge [as Namco should have in the first place]. Works like a charm, no kick harness necessary.

You need a manual for Namco System11 to reference.

edit: here you go

I was also thinking of doing that (soldering the buttons). So on the jamma side are you just using the "blanks" for those buttons? while setting up my jamma harness to work with my neo board i noticed it says blank on 4 slots (now 2 are left).

also thanks for the manual I'll look at doing this tonight. I can't wait to play this game.

did/do you have to do anything with the sound? I noticed that there are spots for speakers on that list. Also just so i'm picturing doing this right did you just make jumpers for A8 & B8 to goto the jamma side at say b & 24 then do A2-0 & B2-0 to jamma c & 25.

my first time soldering a board :) i've done guitars, my xbox, and other misc things just wanting to make sure i do this right. Did you solder towards the front of the jamma edge so that the plastic jamma connector slides over your wire or did you just solder towards the back and the plastic connector doesn't touch the wire just the jamma connector?:vik:

thanks, thats what i was looking for. So you just have to make the jump, you don't need to put the wire all the way down the jamma edge. I didn't get to play around with this today, I was working on my custom arcade stick for SF4. I'll most definitely do this tomorrow. Thanks so much guys!

Yeah, no need to go all the way down. It would have been nicer to put the wires further back on the board, but those points are too small for me. I probably would have fried the thing :P

The only real reason I didn't go further down was so I could still connect the regular JAMMA harness to it.

If I remember correctly stereo sound also comes from that secondary edge connector. I had an idea to bring wires from the second connector to the main JAMMA edge and cut some traces, so it would always be stereo. I decided against that because I didn't want to permanently modify the board.

So i've tried this and maybe i'm not counting right, i've made the connection, and the button doesn't work in the game. I go into the system settings and go into the dip switches and i'm seeing my new button showing up under player three and four. I realised i soldered the wrong side and I did B instead of A. So i flipped the cable and stuck the cable to A8 and A20. I go into the game again doesn't work, go into system settings and I found i'm still under player three and four and this time it's a different button last time i believe was 2 this time it's 1. any ideas? I have a soul edge manual which says player 1 guard is A20 and player 2 guard is A8. I've counted several times across and i've consistanctly getting on A8 and A20, are you supposed to include the "blank" spot i believe it's called the Polarizing Key. let me know what you think.

Then I'm on the right spot. Do I need to ground out those buttons on that edge or can i use the other buttons common?

I would ground it w/ the other buttons I'd guess. Do you have this in a real arcade cabinet?

I'll have to look through that manual sometime this weekend when I get some time.

Yes i do. it's in my killer instinct cab. My MVS 1 slot works perfect in it. The game plays perfect except the guard button.

let me know what you guys think. if you need any numbers off of the board for identifcation let me know but right now i have 1 punch, 2 punch, 1 kick working. which is straight off of the board and with my jumpers if i go into system test > dip switch test i can see my "guard" button showing up as player 3 button1 and player 4 button 1. should/could i de-solder it, and manually move it while it's live/hot and have my wife hit the button while i put it on different contacts to see which one it really is? just not sure why the manual says one thing and it's not working. Also i got the manual from the site mentioned above for the Tekken board, i just went to their main site and found it from there.

So started to read the manuel and found this.

On entering the switch Test, the following screen appears on the monitor.
Operating the joysticks will cause the + to change to X for each of the eight
positions.
When testing:
1P Attack (H) 1P 0000 will change to 1P 1000
1P Attack (V) 1P 0000 will change to 1P 2000
1P Kick 3P 0000 will change to 3P 1000
1P Guard 3P 0000 will change to 3P 2000
2P Attack (H) 2P 0000 will change to 2P 1000
2P Attack (V) 2P 0000 will change to 2P 2000
2P Kick 4P 0000 will change to 4P 1000
2P Guard 4P 0000 will change to 4P 2000
Pressing 1P Attack (V) will return to the Test Menu Screen

I'm going to hook everything back up and check it out again. I looked at the wiring diagram as well and it doesn't show the ground going to the expansion board it's with the other button's common. I'm going to play around see what i can find/figure out.
