Hello,
I want to ask a few questions about NGCD.

First .. I want to know if its normal when the NGCD makes this weird ticking noise when u put the CD in the first time .. lasts for a few seconds.

Second I seen a NGCD in a friends house .. we used to play it and it worked fine.
Then suddenly it stopped recognizing the CD anymore ..
Before when u insert the cd it said please wait or something like that and then loaded the game.
Now when we put the cd and turn it on it doesnt do anything .. like there is nothing there at all.

Please tell me whats the problem and how to fix it

Clean the optical pick up lens.

Use a cotton bud with some iso alcohol to gently whipe the "birds eye"

I tried to clean it carefully but that didnt help either.

The system still doesnt recognize any kind of cds. no music and no games.

Any suggestions ?

Have you tried one of those good ol' cd lens cleaner discs? Just pop them in and they will pick up all the dust of the head.

My PS2 got frequentlockups and freezes until I bought one. They are avaliable at most CD stores for about $10.

Then again it could be the motor comming to the end of its life. CD based systems are lucky to live more than 5 years due to the moving parts.

Dark - we have lift off! Your CD motor is offically dead. Maybe Kurtz could fix it for you. If not then try !Arcade!. By the way, when the thing starts to sputter try spinning the CD with your finger while the machine is turned on. That should give it enough umph to start. I know the problem that you are having because it happened to me once too.

So the optical assy moves up and down (in an attempt to focus) but the disc does not spin at all ???

If thats the case the optical assy may be faulty, alternatively it may be a problem with the servo/system control on the CD control pcb.

The first thing to do in a case like this is remove the CD mech and pcb, check for obvious dry joints or loose connections. On reassembly you may well find it works OK. Cd readers can be very fickle like that.

If still no joy, you would need to eliminate the optical assy, I dont know what they use, have a look for part numbers, could be something like KSM-213. If so it is common generic type and cheap.

If it turns out to be a problem on the pcb then it gets tough. Probably beyond repair.

well .. it starts at first to sputter and make some noise (again, i dont know if thats normal) .. the whole thing that holds the lens and the motor (like in a PSX) shakes when the sputtering occurs.
But the cd doesnt start to spin .. I am positive about that.

I also tried to give it a spin when it started to sputter .. it actually started to roll by itself but game didnt run.

i dropped Kurtz and email .. hope I get this baby fixed
