Cleaning MVS

I have a 2 slot and about 15 games for it. I put it into my recently acquired Neo 29 and sometimes I get graphic and sound issues. It is a pretty old board, I have owned it for about 5 years, same with the games.

How do I go about cleaning it? I remember that alcohol and cotton swabs were the way to go and also a pencil eraser for the carts. Is this what I should do to all my stuff?

I use a tableknife, an old smooth cloth and distilled water. It works fine, and it's one of the simplest ways to clean both carts and slots.
