alrighty, so there's a massive array of mvs boards out there and I was just wondering if there was any that should be avoided due to unreliability or whatever? I'm not bothered about how big they are/whether they have joystick ports or not but I don't want to end up with a lemon so I thought I'd ask in case there's a model or 2 that are best avoided.

cheers.

The best thing to do is check this list at hardmvs.com:

<a href="http://www.hardmvs.com/html/PCBcompare.htm" target="_blank">http://www.hardmvs.com/html/PCBcompare.htm</A>

...which has a breakdown of what features are included on the boards. IMO, it's handy to have a board that includes controller ports so you have the option of hooking up standard neo sticks or pads; Of course, those aren't necessary if you're planning on using the MVS board in a cabinet.

It's often claimed that the 6-slot is the most problematic mobo. Since clear evidence for this has never been adduced (AFAIK) I'm led into thinking it's just a common place. Probably, the grain of truth is that having a lot of slots it is potentially more prone to damage than mobo's that don't have as many slots.

I think you should rather focus on the different features of the various mobo's, since they vary a lot in this respect, and choose the one that fits better your needs.

I agree with MKL - a 6 slot is 50% more likely to have a SLOT problem than a 4 slot and 3x more likely than a 2 slot but this is for SLOT problems only. RAM, ROM, Sound issues are not any more likely in a 6 slot than any other board as far as I can tell.

The number of slots and features are a safe way to pick a board.

Just look at features/price an get what you need the most.
I personally got a MV1-A because it was cheaper and I needed it to be small because I use a supergun. I didn't need to have more than one game, and my supergun has the same controller ports as the Neo so I can use AES sticks anyway.
