MV-LED, part replacement question

Received a pair of MV-LEDs today.

I need to build harnesses for them, but haven't had much luck figuring out where (stateside) I can get a proper connector for them. I'm half tempted to see if the ribbon cable from a floppy drive (or the like) will work. Any suggestions on finding those end bits to make my own? cutting and crimping 13 wires for each isn't that bad.

Second question. The actual little display pieces are both a little scuffed up. Would it just be less of a hassle for me to use some model paint to touch up the black, or should I replace the LED unit? If so, does anyone have any idea what sort of LED unit I should scrounge around for?

Last question. It's been years since I've seen a cab with these in the control panel and I cannot recall if there was any sort of overlay on top of the credit display (piece of plastic, or what have you. Does anyone know if there was?

Thanks!

there is nothing over the leds other than the cpo (the cpo has a clear plastic spot over each credit led )

Excellent. Thanks. My new CP will be a sandwhich:

Plywood
Sheet metal (for some small, non standard parts like the headphone jacks)
Graphical Overlay
Plexi

I'm doing it this way so that the plexi can get beat to hell, and be replaced w/out needing a whole new graphical overlay. I'll just make sure to mount the credit indicators so as to be close to the plexi.

Thoughts on replacing / repainting the LED bits? The black part, specifically, is pretty scuffed on one of them.

mine has plexi over everything also i got it with none but the original cpo was getting beat so i aded the plexi

got some pics of your leds how bad are they id say unless its really bad id just leave it once you place the plexi and cpo over it it should difuse most of the imperfections

Here's a shot of the boards. You can see where the black is scuffed off:

It's not horrible, so it's probably not worth the... fun of desoldering them and resoldering replacements.

just to clarify about the screens for the LEDs, they are not clear, they are red tinted.

Yeah. I noticed that. Shouldn't be too much trouble to get my hands on a piece of red light gel (the plastic used for theatre lights). Honestly, I'm tempted to take ye olde fine point sharpie to them to color in the white. Once the gel is in place it'll prolly be invisible.

Still looking for a pointer on those leads to hook them up. I checked a drive cable, and the connectors are no good.

Those are the ones. Don't suppose you have a second? Ultimately, I need 2 sets of leads (4 connectors). Wires are /way/ to short on that one, but that's relatively easy enough to fix.

I think I'm good on that. I've got theater and lighting tech friends aplenty, I'll just get one of them to snag me some red. Thanks for the offer though!

Well, one is better than none! PM Sent. You rock!

At the very least, this gives me an easier way to make sure these are working 100%.

I'll have to scrounge around to see what I can find. I actually /found/ the connectors, but can only really order in 1000 item lots, and I don't think I need quite that many.
