I recently got a japanese aes system and bought a US SVC chaos cart from the neostore here. The seller told me it would play US carts but when I go to turn the system on I get a warning about "this game is for use in japan only" etc. and then i just get a blank screen. Do I need to install a debug chip or what. Kinda bummed out the whole situation.

Whoever told you that is an idiot. Every NEO-GEO game from any region is compatibile with any NEO-GEO console from any region. Of course, MVS carts do not work on the AES and vice versa.

Did you read his post, koopa? He said he was told the console and carts were region free, but a US game is not working on his JP console...and what's even weirder is that he's getting a JP Only message from a US game. Very odd.

I know the MVS SvC has the lockout that Playmore put in new games so they can't be used with the old Phantom-1 converter...and even though you have AES version, perhaps that is part of the problem? I really don't know...I use JP and US carts on my US AES all the time and have no problems, but I only have old AES games from long before Playmore took over.

[edit]
Never mind about that JP Only message comment...the JP BIOS is booting the US cart in JP mode, and that warning screen is normal in JP mode...though the game should boot right after it is displayed.

See? >_>

If it doesn't boot past that screen then it probably just needs cleaning.

See what?

And it's a brand new cart, why would it need a cleaning?

I think this may be related to the lockout (if that applies to AES carts), but it's only a guess.

I figured it out. Im used to the old NES, SNES and genesis' that wouldnt even load like the splash screen if it didnt read the cart right. I played around with it used a can of duster to spray out the console a little bit and eventually it worked. Been awhile since I've used these old systems so I gotta get my old shimmying techniques back (havent had to do it since I the PS2 came out). Thanks for the input though I was ready to reem out the aes seller.

There is no region lock on the AES, a Euro game will work on a Japanese system and vice versa, the region that the game is played in is determined by the console's region. I think there was some sort of protection used in SNKP titles but this was only ever a problem with use in the Phantom-1 MVS to AES converter.

Both my brand new KOF'03 and SvC Chaos MVS carts needed cleaning before they would play.

There are chemicals left on the contacts from the factory that need to be cleaned off before you can get a good connection.

Murray: what kind of cleaning substance should I use? I don't want to damage my cart or system. I read through the instruction manual and it said not to use alcohol but honestly that is what I've used in the past to clean other games.

Way to reiterate my entire post.

For the new ones, all I used was 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a couple of cotton swabs. For anything really filthy, it's alcohol, followed by a pink eraser, followed by more alcohol.

Most likely what really helped was the fact that you inserted and removed the cart multiple times. A lot of brand new carts have that factory goo slightly glazed over the contacts. I am sure it is the same stuff that coats the PCB to let the solder glide off the board. If you really want to get rid of it all, use NES Repair cleaning paste to go all the way with cleaning it and other systems carts. It is safe and removes oxidation off carts. http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=160&cat=NES+Repair+-+Tools+%26+Kits

My KOF 99 and Matrimelee took a while to get to work right when I first bought those until a couple of times reinserting them into the system. I guess the contacts in the system rubbed off the PCB coating on the contacts. I highly suggest cleaning a Neo Geo system and carts very often since there are two PCBs with a crap load of contacts.
