I lent my neo 29 candy cab out for a street fighter tournament and when it was returned I was informed the people running the event lost the keys to my cab. I have had some experience picking deadbolts and house locks but I know nothing about circular locks like the kind found on most cabs. Has this happened to anyone else and what exactly are my options.:help:

You can maybe contact happ and see if they can get you a master or something?!?

The locks in my red seem pretty doable in terms of a pick. But I haven't had to try yet.

If you are able to identify serial numbers tapped on the side of keys, contact seller of cab, or contact where handles them, and see if spare keys are avalable. If not, you just have to drill it out, and replace with another ones.

You could try calling a locksmith. I was quoted $65 to have one come out, pick my coin door lock, and make a key for it. I haven't done it yet, but that should give you an idea of what you're looking at.

Drill Baby Drill

Yeah I would definitely drill before I paid to have it picked. At 6-25 or so for the range of locks... just drill that core out and pop in a new one from Happ and get extra keys made and always keep a few in different locations around the house.

That is PRICEY! I'm sure you can do cheaper with something from the ol local hardware store.
I'd be concerned with making a huge mess of the cabinet or ruining the hardware on the back of the lock with something else. In my case, anyway, all I want to do is get the thing open so I can replace the lock with one that has a key.

The best and cheapest option is to drill the lock out. Sometimes if a lock isn't overly tight, you can try pliers and attempt to turn the lock assembly but that, along with trying to pry the door open, may result in damage to your door.

It's really easy to drill them out with a standard metal drill bit. The metal is really weak on most of them and they should come out in less than a minute. New locks are like $4. You could risk damaging your cab if you try to pry them open.

Well damn, I might just try that this week. I'd always assumed the metal was too hard to drill with something normal.

Unfortunately bumping only works on standard door locks. Locks which are circular can only be picked with a special tool or drilled out.

Ah didn't know that... just found that link earlier and thought it might be useful. Oh well. Good to know :)

Any luck with your locks?

Yeah I tried all the weird and seemingly to good to be true tricks like the bic pen trick but no luck. I just went to home depo and picked up a cheap drill and drilled the locks out. The drilling was easy but cleaning the metal shavings produced from destroying six locks was a pain in the ass. Thanks for all the advice:glee:

Yeah I can't tell you how many pieces of metal i've pulled out of my skin doing stuff like that. Sometimes I would find slivers of sheet metal days later embedded in my skin...

Six?

You could have pulled the front one off by unscrewing it.

I bet the worst was the one on top of the CP.

yeah there are two for the control panel one for the front one for the back and two for the coin return and the power supply. I only needed to drill out four the others i could reach around and unscrew them from inside.:spock:

What kind of bit did you use and about how long did it take per lock?

I used a black and decker 12v drill with a 1/4'' cobalt drill bit the brand was Ridgid. I think the big thing is to make sure you use a drill bit which is made for metal work as apposed to mason or wood work. In hindsight I probably would have used a slightly bigger bit. It did not take very long to drill through the locks maybe 1~2 mins per.
