I have 2 mvs carts that have the same problem and am wondering what it's caused by.

I have a KOF 97 and a Shock Troopers 2 cart. Both have blurry or rather undefined text on the screen.

On the ST2 cart when playing the game the score and whatever that text is on the lower left corner, looks like it might be a gun is kinda blurry/pixelated. Everything else is crystal clear on the game.

On KOF97 the Highscore list is the same as the ST2 cart. All my other carts are fine.

I'll post pics later but does anyone know what the problem might be? I cleaned the edges and checked the soldering already.

***UPDATE***

I opened the KOF97 cart and it had exactly the same problem as the ST2. Both carts had traces cut from the board post on the back of the CHA boards. The plastic post that the boards were resting on were rubbing on 2 traces from the S1 but only 1 was damaged. Easy fix.

I assume you've tried them in a different MVS as well, or at least tried resetting the backup ram?

Ya, didn't do anything different. Only these 2 carts do this. Tested 7 other carts and they're fine.

Hmm.. Can you spot anything in common with the carts that could possibly be causing the problem?

I fixed the ST2 cart. I looked again and there was a broken trace to the S1 which made perfect sense since the S1 takes care of fonts on the cart. Now it looks perfect.

I didn't check the other cart yet but I'll be fucking shocked if it has the same fix as that's just weird that 2 carts have the same broken trace.

That's interesting.

Here's pics of what the ST2 and KOF 97 did looked like:

yup, same problem and same solution. I'm glad it wasn't my MV1C.

yup. I just had to run a wire from the S1 to a surface mount chip next to it.
