EDIT: I'm done with this cart. Too much risk on my MVS 2 slot to continue working on it.
I got a Metal Slug 2 cart a while ago with my first MVS. The graphics are all screwed up so I opened it up and cleaned it out. One side of one of the boards was coated in a sweet smelling brown goo (DrPepper would be my guess). After an hour of careful cleaning I put it back together but still get glitchy graphics.
At first, I thought it was the contacts. It helped some when I cleaned them. But after cleaning the DrPepper and resoldering the chips, I didn't get any difference in performance. There is a chance that the DrPepper damaged the game, but this game is a bootleg for sure. The chips are socketed and obviously not official. That and I found a King of Fighters sticker in there to protect the contacts from touching.
The game plays and the music comes in just fine, but most of the sprites are wrong.
I looked around for the jumper settings on Metal Slug 2, but could only find Metal Slug 1. The game is probably toast, but I want to at least try.
