Howdy, what power supply does a neo geo aes with a serial 060589 and says rating 8w use pro-pow-e adapter only, motherboard has printed on it neo-aes 3-5?
Im confused if it uses a 9v or 5v. Dont want to fry anything.
And which ac in the neo store would work ok with this system?
Also how can i tell if this is a PAL or NTSC system?

Thanks

If the board has a 5 pin voltage regulator on it then it uses 9v at 1.2A DC.

Without the 5 pin regulator it's 5.0v at 3A DC.

Post a pic of the board I can can tell you real quick.

The system says it uses a pro-pow-e adaptor, which is 10v 1 amp negative tip. I rewired the inside of my sega adaptor to be negative tip. this is a 10v adaptor. Will there be any problems with this?

I have the same AES model (AES3-5) sn around 115000, the original Japanese psu says 700mA 11V.
Because I live in Europe (220V) I used a Sega Megadrive I psu (10V 1.2A) and it works just fine... It has the same polarity (negative at the centre, positive on the outside).

Why rewire? Maybe you have a PSU for Megadrive II and i have one for Megadrive I, they may have different polarities....
Be very carefull with correct polarity, reversed polarity will damage the console instantly!!!!

The PSUs for AES could be...

PRO-POW
power input AC100V
power output DC5V 3A

PRO-POW-UL
power input AC120V
power output DC5V 3A

PRO-POW2
power in AC100V
power out DC5V 3A

PRO-POW3
power in AC100V
power out DC10V or DC11V

The polarity on the MD2 AC Adaptor is reversed.

I doubt plugging in an AC Adaptor with the incorrect polarity would damage the system. Most consoles have a diode to prevent this from happening.

Well, I don't know first hand of someone with a damaged NeoGeo console by pluging a reversed polarity psu BUT i know of other devices that got damaged by the same thing. I've seen some TurboGrafx-16 with a blown 7805 trasnistor which definitely looks like someone did exactly that (the transistor had splited in two).

When a console developer designs a console, has in mind that you'll be using it with the psu that came with it (specially back then). Why should he consider that someone would rewire or use another psu and take measures to prevent damage in case it is innapropriate (reverse polarity or incorrect voltage)...

I'm not saying that you're wrong for sure, I'm saying that judging from experience, I wouldn't even think of trying it.
