stupid ghostlop observation

In the "how to" it states you must catch the ball or else ghosts will advance one row. Well the ghosts still advance even when you do catch it... so who cares if you miss it?

yeah, but if you miss it you get called a "geek" which can take its toll emotionally.

Been a long time since I played it, but doesn't it advance again on top of the advance that it does anyway?

You catch it, it advances one line. You miss, it advances one line for the miss, then advances one line like it would anyway for a total of 2 lines.

If you get stuck with the blocks really close to the bottom it can bounce back and forth really quickly ending the round.

If you miss it the ghosts still advance but you have no control of the ball as it bounces back to the top which if it hits a ghost or skull that is close to the floor you can really get backed up fast.
