I guess so.
I have GBA player for Gamecube, 2 GBAs, and 1 phat DS. I think I can live without the new DSi.

Supposedly DSi has 4 times the amount of RAM and a faster processor than the DS Lite. Right now I can't recall any game in which I experience slowdown, except Izuna when you're on one of those dungeon floors without walls and use a spell packet at the same time, I could see how it would benefit. The point to have the DSi is obviously for the DSi shop. I would say take a wait and see approach if you already own a DS Lite. I like having the GBA port --- lets one play GBA games, use rumble pack, use paddle controller for Arkanoid and Space Invaders.

I don't actually own any DS system. I had the original but I got rid of it after a couple of months of owning it.

I have a DS Lite but I am thinking about picking up a DSi. I know that the two cameras on it are pretty shitty but some of the videos of what you can do to the photos looks fun. The same can be said about music, as there are neat ways to play with the song, speed it up, slow it down ect.

I am also interested in the DSi DL service that will be similar to Wiiware. Wiiware has a number of very good games at a low price point. DSi is suppose to do the same.

If I was going to buy a DS, I sure as hell wouldn't get one that didn't play GBA games.

DSi's pretty much a Lite with a shitty camera, no GBA slot, and a hefty price tag. Not sure about you guys, but I'd personally stick with the Lite. :p

Lite all the way. Most of the new features in the DSi are things you should be able to do with your cellphone already (except the phone part). I'd say the loss of the GBA slot is not worth it for what little you gain, especially considering the DSi's higher pricetag.

The addition of a larger screen, the removal of the gba slot and redesigning the power button from the outside of the system to the inside makes this a must-buy for me. By removing the gba slot (making the system slimmer) and moving the power button to the inside, now my DS won't turn on every time I sit down with it in my pocket. DSi Store? Meh, I doubt it'll churn out anything more than shovelware, so there's little interest from me towards that feature. The cameras? Barf! Maybe good for a chuckle or two, to use the DS touch screen to stretch and bend my (or someone else's) face ala Mario on the game launch screen for Super Mario 64.

If you are into the GBA or using that slot for games like Guitar Hero, there is zero reason to pick up a DSi. I use to own a bunch of GBA games but don't own any now.

I am really hoping the DSi shop turns into what the WiiWare is for the Wii. However, overall I can see that a lot of people would not be intersted in the DSi and that is understandable.

i'm surprised as many people use the gba slot as they do.
i have a gba micro sitting next to my ds and i play all my gba stuff on that.
just about never take out the slot for the gba games on my ds.
maybe once the first time i got it.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone finds a way to hack DSi shop games to work on any DS.

I hate the dsi.

I dont like the store and I could care less for another fucking mp3 player.
The hard matted finsh blows compared to the soft elegant finsh of the lite
The lack of a gba slot sucks.

It does have bigger screens which is nice though.

My old DS Lite broke on me a few months ago, and I bought a new one with full knowledge that the DSi was coming out soon.

I am very much against downloadable games being "the wave of the future". It feels like such a waste of money. And they already tried the Game Boy Camera 10 years ago. It was fun back then since it was such a novel thing, but nowadays any common cell phone can take pictures and play music. And who doesn't already have an MP3 player in this day and age anyway?

The DS can only do one thing that other common devices can't: play good games. Taking away the GBA slot reduces your ability to do that, and replaces them with abilities you won't ever use more than once.

And it's more expensive. Thumbs down from me.

DSI

My advice would be not to buy the DSI, i have just sold mine, and will be buying a DS when the DSI launches.

Don't get me wrong it is nice, but not much nicer than a DS. I'd rather have a DS in a colour of my choice than a DSI in black or white.

Its hard to notice the difference in screen size, the camera is 0.3 MP and I don't think Nintendo went far enough, it should have been a next gen in my opinion. The difference overall is not work the extra cost. Save your money.

p.s. you can play mp3 on a DS very easily(if you really need another mp3 player :-) ).

GBA slot > any other crap they throw on it.

Save money and play GBA games on a well lit screen.

There's already enough shovelware on the DS. Downloadable games aren't going to improve to good:garbage ratio. I'll stick with my black DS Lite, thank you.

Actually, one game I remember had a lot of slowdown was FFXII: Revenant wings. It always seemed to happen toward end game where there was always a lot of espers summoned. Whether this will fix it is another question though.

As for whether to grab a DSi or a DSLite, Pretty much they get rid of the GBA port, but I honestly never used the thing for it. If you want to use a R4DS or equivalent you'll have to grab a DSlite since you can't use them on a DSi. But the major thing is that a DSi is $50 more expensive that a DSLite right now. So whether it's going to be worth it is another question. I would probably try it before buying it.

I guess Mr. Driller just hit the DSi store (Japan). I am a huge Mr. Driller fan, so I hope that this game makes it to the USA store once the DSi is out.

I have also read that each owner gets 1000 points once they connect to the DSi store for the first time.

It might. I don't know how the games on the DS are programmed, but I always saw better frame rate, quicker draw times on PCs and Macs when RAM was expanded.

Well, computer applications are programmed to run on generic "dynamic" hardware -- console games are different, designed to run on a static type of hardware.

That's what I thought too, but then how does one explain the expansion of soldered-on memory that Microsoft has given to the later revisions of Xbox360?

I cant see how more ram would make a ds run faster. Processor, yes for sure. You can run homebrew on a Dsi.
