first off... i know next to nothing about the technicalities of the neo... that being said i just got a consolized system a while ago (i still don't have any carts yet) that came with the universe bios 2.3... i looked around on the razoola homepage but it was talkin about 3.0..... so whats the difference?

i also need some education about the dip switches.... on their most basic level... i'm sure this information is here somewhere.... but i couldn't find much... thanks

If you have no experience, is it that hard to do? I'd rather not send my AES out to someone, and I have the Japanese version (obviously want English text).

IMO, it's actually pretty easy, but I have been doing this sort of thing for many years.

It's not a surface mount chip, and it's only 40 pins, really can't get any easier.

Get yourself a nice hot iron (30W) and some desolder braid (I prefer braid instead of a solder bulb when it comes to removing IC chips). Lay the braid across the pins and heat each one up, the solder should flow in to the braid very easily. Once all 40 pins are desoldered, remove the chip and insert the socket. If the socket keeps falling out when you turn the board over to solder it in place, just bend two of the pins down, that will hold it in place. I prefer to use a cooler iron when soldering (10W or 15W) so I don't burn up whatever it is I'm working on. Solder all 40 pins on the IC socket and you're done...insert the UniBIOS and enjoy.

Check your work for any solder bridges before you power the console on.

If you have a piece of old busted electronics, you can use it to get some practice before you work on your Neo.

I tried to do mine and ended up wrecking a bunch of the traces. I had to send it away to get it fixed. I wasn't being careful enough though. I've had a little more experience and might be able to do it now.

Neotropolis charges like $230 plus returning shipping for unibios, light up reset button, s-video/component mods.

Do not attempt to do this if you have zero experience. I repeat,do not attempt to remove that bios if you are a novice. The Solder sucker and braid combination work best for removal.

I'm not bashing at all, just contemplating if it's worth it to pay for it, or try it myself.
