I have a big red cab with a 6 slot board. Is there any easy way to identify what monitor is in it? I've tried searching the forums but when I search the keywords "identify monitor" I get a white screen with an error. Any help would be appreciated as I think I am going to do a cap kit for it and possibly a flywheel. I've never done it before and I am aware that I will probably get killed. Also, any tips are appreciated as well. Thanks.

Take lots of pictures, then post them here.

Also remember that the info on the tube isn't all that important.. It's the chassis that matters.

Ok, based on these pics, I think it is a sharp image, possibly a SI-325 but for some reason the little remote boards don't look the same, and some of the dials on the actual boards don't look the same either. Do they often deviate on the same models?

I don't seem to have convergence rings and dynamic convergence is the problem I am having?!?

Found a designation sticker on the unit. A Sharp Image SI-727R trying to find more info on it now.

What's the monitor doing that makes you want to do a capkit? It might be something you can adjust. Also, the flyback probably only needs replacement if the monitor is completely dead.

As for resolution, what game did it come from, do you know?

Sorry it is the DS from a Big Red 6-sloter, I'm uploading photos now, the issue is the dynamic convergence. It is sorta bad on the corners and this monitor does not seem to have the rings to adjust it. Also, I have to turn the brightness and contrast all the way up to get a good picture.

15khz only unless its the SI-727-DS.

Can you post a pic of a crosshatch test pattern?
Also, have you tried degaussing the tube? It might clear up the edges a bit.

Take some of that superbowl money and buy yourself a new monitor.

Wow, my soldering skills are not what they used to be, wonder if I should be tackling this alone?

As far as I can see, there's nothing wrong with the picture. Sure the bars are a little off on the very edges, but convergence rings will generally change the entire picture and the rest looks fine. You say you have to boost the contrast and brightness to get a good picture? Is that what you did for the pictures you posted? I think the adjustments will allow you to get it bright enough to where it's too bright, so I'd say your picture looks fine. The green on the edge of the crosshatch looks suspect as I've only seen all white crosshatches. But it looks too uniform to be a degauss issue. Can you post a pic of some gameplay to see how it looks then? If the green is gone during a game, I'd say leave the board alone. A cap kit might help with the brightness/contrast, but if you've never done it before, just leave it alone.

The green edge crosshatch is part of the neo geo hardware test in the test mode. During gameplay, any text or white items on the edges of the screen display that bleed that you are seeing in the white crosshatch. Also, anything around the edges of the screen including on the left and right side, is not fully in focus but as it moves to the middle it becomes nice and sharp.

I've never worked on a monitor without convergence rings, so I'd say scour the internet for a manual for that monitor and see what kind of diags/adjustments can be made. There are a lot of knowledgeable people over at BYOAC and Bob Roberts is always a good resource.

Bob Roberts unfortunately sent me back a one sentence reply saying he "has nothing on it" so I think he is in the dark on this monitor as well. The most I can find on it is from a klov posting that a repair technician made a cap list for a cap kit and I sent that to bob and he said he can make a kit for 12 dollars from the list. That's all I can find literally.
