Hi Fellas,

Im a newbie to the forum. Id like to start by saying that I think the forum is great and say a BIG hello to everyone here.

I would like to explain my problem with the hope that somebody here maybe able to help me.

After many years, I decided to take a trip down memory lane and setup my AES Neo which has been stored in the loft. My problem is this, it powers up, boot screen appears normally, Samurai Showdown cart which is plugged in begins its intro for around 3 seconds then the system reboots its self as if the reset button has been pressed. It appears to just loop like this no matter what I try to do! If anybody on the forum can suggest anything to resolve my problem
I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance for any advise.

NOTE: When no cart is in the screen is red, after reading some posts, this may be a ram problem. I checked the board traces and they seem to be fine! so Im stuck! Any suggestions fellas?

Regards,

Mega.

I'm going to recommend cleaning the cart(s) and the cart slot in the AES.

For carts, rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips work well enough. If you can take apart the carts, throw an eraser into that combo.

For the slot, take some rubbing alcohol and an old, used toothbrush and lightly scrub the pins.

Do the above procedures until no more dirt comes off the pins. Also, wait until everything is dry before testing anything.

EDIT: Noticed you are from the UK, I think rubbing alcohol is called Spirit something in Europe, I forgot. >_<

He means isopropyl alcohol, which is commonly called rubbing alcohol.

Cleaning the slot will have no effect on this.

You have a bad Work RAM chip.

I can fix it, but I'm in the states. I can refer you to MKL who can also fix it and lives closer to you. He's in Italy.

I think he was referring to Methylated Spirits which is 99% alcohol.

OK,
so I cleaned the contacts. They seemed quite clean anyway but a clean wouldnt hurt after all these years. Alas, no change to the fault :(

From what I have read off the board and what channelmaniac thinks, I too think my problem
is possibly the RAM. So, my logical next questions is to ask are...

Is this something that I may be able to do myself? (Im ok with a soldering iron)

Where can I source the chips?

If its seems too much for me to attempt, What kind of price are we talking for the repair?

Any help is as always appreciated :)

I sell the chips on my site. Odds are only one is bad and not both, but if you replace the wrong one then you need to order another chip. ;)

62256 SRAM chip. I have them on my website.

If you don't have surface mount soldering experience, I'd suggest you send it to someone for repair. I charge $40 flat rate on surface mount rated repairs. (Plus shipping) The rates are posted on my website and on my repair thread in the for sale section on this forum.

I can't comment on what MKL would charge you, you'll have to contact him.

Many thanks channelmaniac for your help.

From your post I may aswell change both chips
are the ones I need...
62256-10 32k x 8 Static RAM or 62256 32k x 8 SMT Static RAM?

I might as well first try to source the chips from the UK somewhere.
Does anyone on the forum know of a UK supplier for the RAM?
