As the title says I just bought my first PSP, actually I bought 2 a brand new slim and a older phat and damn I can't believe how great this little thing can be. First thing I did when I got it is install a CFW and put MVSPSP, CPS1PSP & CPS2PSP on it. Since then I installed poploader on it and put a few PSX games I own mostly RPG's I really like. I really don't know why I never bought one before since it's possible to do so much with it but I am happy I finally did, although I tend to find myself not playing it as much as I would like to but I know it will come in handy when I travel.

I don't know about anyone else but the phat feels a hell of alot better than the slim which gives my hands cramps.

It's awesome.

For emulation.

Software-wise it's quite shit.

Well said!!! I plan to never buy a PSP game ever to be honest. I got the Castlevania and the Metal Gear Acid 2 for real cheap on the bay but now I plan to sell them.

The D-pad on the slim is MUCH better. Fighting games are terrible on fat.

I bought one of the packages that has a bunch of buttons for the PSP and switched the 4 button d-pad for a regular crisscross d-pad so fighting games are more playable now but you might be right I never tried playing fighting games on the phat just the slim.

I'm thinking of making a Garou love thread. Have been watching people play on GGPO lately, and it's just fun watching people play that game, "it's so bad" (like the power glove) like Lucas would say in "The Wizard." I can't wait til I get my SFIV TE stick and can play with that on GGPO. I love the art of Garou, it just grows on you more and more. I wake up with the songs in my head.

Just pointing out that reference to "The Wizard" so you know it's not a coincidence that I said that *fucking ocd*.

if patapon is half as addictive as the demo, it's a must-have.

Much more so, actually. The game itself also has a surprising amount of depth.

I don't know why people think the PSP has bad games... I have about 15 or 20 games for the system, and pretty much all of 'em are excellent. Look no further than God of War: COO, Metal Gear Portable Ops, FFT: War of the Lions (sure, it's a port, but a damn good one, plus it's FFT on the go), Crisis Core: FFVII, Patapon... I could go on. Plus you can put PS1 games on there from the store anyways, it's not like they're expensive. I have Wild ARMs and Street Fighter Alpha on my PSP at the moment.

I suppose it's not as good as the DS, but that doesn't mean it's not a great system. I don't plan on ever putting emulators on mine, I'm more than happy with the commercial software.

I'd say Patapon is a system-seller.

Loved the game from start-to-finish.

Oddly enough though, I have no interest in the sequel...

Guess one was enough for me.

Haven't bought much software lately for the PSP or DS, but I'd still say the DS owns the crap out of the PSP in terms of it--then again, I've played more emulation on my PSP than I have in direct comparison to original software on my DS so I suppose they both end up being equally enjoyable systems.

(Even though I've yet to play it the DS brutally owns the PSP in general for the new Phantasy Star Online game alone.)

I just bought a new PSP after having sold my OG one several years ago.

I actually really like the software lineup...I'm playing the port of Yggdra
Union right now(very nice update to the GBA game).
I have no plans to CFW my PSP as I have a GP2X to cover all that off.
There are a ton of great releases on the PSP that will probably never get ported.
I'd say it's really become a niche gamer's handheld, but that's fine with me.

PSP's a great little portable emulation / multimedia system. Way better than DS or Gameboy Advance...and not by a little, but miles ahead. In terms of hardware, PSP's the only choice. Hell, you can emulate GBA better than it runs on Nintendo's own hardware in some cases haha. Even in early-mid '06 when I grabbed mine, it was purely for emulation purposes. In terms of retail PSP games, the system's starting to come around. D-Pad >>>>> forced Nintendo "innovation". (shitty touch screen / stick)

16gb memory cards can hold a ton of .cso files :buttrock:

GBA emulation is excellent for most games too.

Joe, you just said that for software, the system is shit.

I agree that emulation is the better reason to own one if I had to choose, but there are plenty of new games I enjoy on it as well.

The PSP has two absolutely MUST-OWN games.

Jeanne d'Arc
Patapon

These were absolutely incredible. They reached the level of "instant classic" in a way that no other PSP games have, in my opinion.

Perhaps Final Fantasy Dissidia may be a third, but the quality of Square-Enix's work seems to have been slipping lately... we'll see.

If you're serious about teh romz and homebrew stuff, just buy a separate PSP for that, and a separate for the new games.

I'm too stupid and too lazy to mess with that stuff, but I like it for the RPG remakes, Ikkitousen eloquent fist (beat em up), & Hot Pxl for my wariowaresqe fix.

yeah.but specially you can play good games on your PSP.The best Game on the PSP(Okay its Garou, when you put the neo geo emu in your psp, but i mean a third-person-shooter)comes march and the name is ::::ressistance retribution:::::!Online- matches and a cool singleplayer mode. What do you want more?:spock:And final fantasy Dissidia with a Gameplay like DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Do you need Information about new PSP Games, then go to Gametrailers.com and you have enough information about all console games. But have FUN with your new PSP, and play your favourite games buddy!^^

Joe, you just said that for software, the system is shit.

Patapon and Crisis Core are A+ software titles.

God of War to a lesser extent as well (way too short but an impressive title.)

I'll let Portable Ops slip in there although the controls did nothing but bug the hell out of me.

And that's about it.

Dissidia has my attention, but again, that's about it.

Maybe Samurai Shodown Anthology if SNKP does a decent job with it.

Regardless of my Patapon affections and FFVII fanboyism this is all the PSP has offered (me) for sofware so I don't feel particularly hesitant about throwing around the shit comments.

PSP is a lovely piece of tech and I love it for its emulation capabilities, but I think we went over this before and I said something similiar about direct system comparisons and about prefering to use original software as a base to form my opinions on.

Crisis Core is shit. It looks pretty but the game is terribly designed.

A slot machine that you have no control over constantly handing out Limit Breaks with long animations that you can't skip. I love when you're fighting two basic enemies and one of them dies, the other is almost dead and suddenly a 30 second fight turns into a 2-3 minute fight because you have to watch the fucking cut scene from a Limit Break for the 1000th time.
