For the first time since I was 15, I sucked back then and never really got passed the 2nd guy.

So any way, apparently the music from the Arm Wrestling is the same music from MOTW stage select screen, interesting. Did SNK recycle any other music like this into newer games? Not theme music btw.

Shitty game , isn't it?

it was shitty back then and its shitty right now.

The option screen music is the same on most if not all FF's

it's better than the first street fighter, which is what SNK were aiming for. the special moves are like street fighter in that they do heaps of damage and dominate the CPU once you learn to do them every time.
the difficulty of the game isn't high enough for it to have any lasting challenge at all. once you've beaten it on level 8, that's it. it's fun to play it occasionally.

Wasn't one of the guys who made SF1 also on the dev team for FF?

Something like that, or AOF1 I think it was.

A couple of the guys from Capcom (Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto) went on to SNK after SF1. They went on to make most of the SNK fighting series, including Fatal Fury and AOF.

And now I believe they're DIMPS, which made SF IV.

FF was a fun game at the time, with excellent music. Great memories. The difference between the US/JPN box art was the Neo Geo's equivalent of Mega Man.

WTF?

Anyway, for what it's worth you're entitled to your opinion...

Personally I've always liked Fatal Fury. Sure it's no where near as technical or as fun as a lot of the later SNK brawlers (from any particular series), or compared with a lot of Capcom's later efforts. But at the time I thought it was brilliant and much preferred it to Street Fighter 2 (the original). Even today it can be a lot of fun, provided you approach it with the mind set that it is basic compared to its contemporaries.

How anyone can prefer this game to the original SF2 world warrior is beyond me, there is lightyears of difference. More like comparing SF1 to FF1 is a better situation.

Piston Takashi and Finish Hiroshi I think are their nicknames.
AOF1 is definitely a spiritual successor, and more of a sequel, to the first Street Fighter than SFII was.

I just didn't enjoy playing SF2 WW that's all. I'm not saying FF is technically superior, it probably isn't as solid either, but for me it was more enjoyable and still is more enjoyable to play.

In retrospect I suppose FF is technically more comparable to the SF, which I didn't like either.

Fatal Fury is a bit puke these days but it still has some gnarly bg's and music. Loved it at the time, but SF2 did muderkill it.

I did actually put fighting street on the PC Engine t'other day and its always rubbish, i remeber i finnished it on a ferry when i was younger and could do the special moves.....cant get a single one out now or beat the first guy!

Haven't played Fatal Fury yet, but I did spend some time playing FF2 last week. I found it hard to get into to begin with, because it seemd quite slow compared to games like MOTW etc
However once I'd been playing it for a while - I started to enjoy it :D The only thing I found hard to get used to was sometimes it seems your opponent is wide open for a leg sweep or a standing attack, and just as you attack he does a special move - e.g. Terry's rising tackle, and even though he is at the start of the special move animation your attack just goes straight through him, and then he hits you with his special move. It always seems a bit unfair somehow :(

This is just part of the rules of that game though I guess. I think the first FF is probably historically interesting, but I wouldn't want to play it for fun these days. I think FF Special will be my 'early' FF game of choice from now on.

They don't seem to use that many colours on screen in those earlier games - maybe to do with cart space?

I gotta admit I didnt care much for it when it came out.

Loopz made me play it some more and I like it alot.

My only gripe is the controls are stiff.

Some of the music reminds me of Outrun lol.

Have to admit that's true.

I played the game back in the day when it first came out...I think I was 12 or 13. Anyway, I thought it was interesting. I was already an avid SF fan and when I came to notice FF in the arcades, I enjoyed it. I didn't feel the need to beat it down then or now. I recognized it for it's own value. I guess some people have a more aggressive nature and feel the need to put everything into a comparison with something else.
