hi, I just got an official ac adapter for my neo 5volts 3amps. when I turned the system on all I get are strange flickering colors. My question is How many official adapters were made for the sytem. Is my voltage correct? My sytem's serial is somewhere in the low 20,000 AEC. help!

The adapter wasnt right. I went to the radio shack and the guy told me that the 6 volt was the same as five volt 3 amp. He said there is no such thing as 5 volts? I set the negative piece to the "tip" and I just got colors and when I set it positive I got nothing. then I went to an independant electronics store and thay offered to order one for me 5v 3a, but it was expensive ,like 90 dollars including the work that they had to do so it would fit in the system. Does anyone know where I can get the correct adapter? also how do I know if I need 9 or 5 volts. My serial is low 20,000's.

I hope someone can answer your question in full for you, as I'm curious too. All I can say is my NEO's serial # is in the 11,000 range and it uses the 5v 3amp adapter. I would assume that your console uses the same one with the fairly low # it has. Maybe the adapter isn't the problem? Let's hope not eh? Also, I've seen a few adaptors sell on eBay these past few weeks. Check there. One more thing, I remember reading that the neostore has some adaptors coming in with the shipment of Sengoku 3.

Hope your machine isn't screwed, that would suck. Good Luck.

I have that same problem. I have the wrong power supply for my Neo and when I fire it up...I get little red and green boxes. I know my neo works because I plugged it into another power suplly it work just fine.

I had to do a fair wack of research into this to sort me out with the right voltage for mine. On my quest for knowledge I found out the following which maybe of use.
Originally the neo aes was setup with a 5v 3amp psu, this was all working lovely, until snk reworked the system, i guess to cut down on manufacturing costs. They also apparantly changed the system to run on a 9v 1amp ac adaptor. This was all great, but snk had a huge amount of 5volt 3amp psu's left, and so bundled these with the newer aes systems, capable of running the different voltage. Therefore, in practice what im saying is, a 5v 3amp will work on any aes, whilst some of the newer ones will run on a 9v 1amp. Which to some will be a damned sight easier to find than the original 5v jobbies. Mainly due to 9v 1amps being used either on the Atari Jag or Megadrive/Genesis. As both have the same 1.2mm barrel connectors, there a perfect match.
If however your uncertain of the voltage, and dont want to risk it, go for the 5v 3amp psus. If your looking for a place to get them, try Http://www.telegames.co.uk There not the cheapest in town, but they do have stock.

thanks for the help guys. Pichai said something about getting colors with one of the plugs and then trying another and it worked. Which plug did you use when it worked, maybe I can get my hands on one for a decent price.

OK, first, if you're using an unregulated PSU - CHUCK IT OUT!!! It'll just damage your system, as it can give out higher (or lower) voltages and/or currents. You need a regulated PSU.

If you think it'll be the 9V one, use a Mega Drive (sorry, Genesis) PSU.

I did a post on this before... why don't u go dig that out <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

I have two low serial Neos that use the 5v 3amp adaptor. I think shawn is getting something lik 50 power adaptors soon so you may want to wait until he gets his before buying one elsewhere.
