I've heard that you can power the MV-2FS 2 slot on 12v only?

My dilemma is that I've got an arcade PSU, i'd like it to fit inside the 2 slot, Which it wont as it's far too big. I dont want it on the outside of the shell because that would look ugly.

But I dont really want to build a casing for the arcade PSU, I'd rather a more all-in-one setup.

Can the 2 slot be powered only by 12v? And if so, is there any sort of modifications that need to be done?

+5v only actually BUT you can down step the +12v to +5v. And there is no way to make it an all in one with an arcade PSU unless you make a custom enclosure for the entire 2 slot or make it a Hunchback with a lump.

Looks like I'll just get some plastic cylinder bits, prop up the metal casing enough to fit in the PSU. Or just mount it on some varnished wood. Doesnt have to look too pretty.

Thanks for the help though. Couldve blown up my 2 slot.

(p.s. The 2 slot is working like a charm, channelmaniac.)

I'm glad you're happy with it! It was the first time I shipped a board that far.

So I could just use an old cellphone charger and something like this:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=LM340T-5.0-ND

To make sure my voltage is 5V and power a 2slot that way?

(am I thinking that out right?)

Edit: I saw on Xian Xi's CMVS wiki that you want 5V psu input....but was just thinking using something like the above there will let me use one of the liek 15 old electronics chargers I have laying around from old phones etc.

Those chargers may output 5V DC, but may (probably) not output enough current to power an arcade board.

That IC is only rated for 5v at 1 amp of current, and that's only with a big heatsink on it.

Yeah I can't remember what the amperage is on that guy I have in mind....
by chance do you know what I would need - is it just whatever he had linked to ( https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/s...reId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=1946121& ) which is 3amps or do you think it is way under?

Just curious...that one is pretty small as well but hey if I can save 15 bucks and use up some chargers laying around, even better :buttrock:

I would NOT use that one. There is nothing showing if it is regulated 5v DC or if it's simply a wall wart that puts out close to 5v DC. You don't want to fry your board.

They are regulated but just don't say it on the page. Those are the ones I've been using.
