CPS1 Graphics Problem

So, I bought a Knights of the Round board, tested it before I bought it and it worked fine.

Got home and fired it up and nothing on screen. I shut it off and noticed that I got a mild shock from the coin door on the cab, seems the board has metal feet and 2 were also touching a pin on the board, and the feet were resting on the metal coin door. I assume that this is the reason why the game no longer works, but it's only a guess. (???)

So I move the board from that location and turn it on again and nothing, but then notice that there is sound, it accepts coins and seems be playing, just has no graphics at all. I tried a few more times after checking that all the chips were secure etc etc and the best I got was that one time it showed the graphics that would highlight your choice of character.... but that's it.

I tried it with another working CPS1 A-Board and no change.

I'm hoping that it's possible to get the chips that have the graphics on them re-done and that this is a relatively easy process since the mame rom sets are generally available. Looking for some thoughts on if this is possible/worth it and who could do this. Also if my diagnosis sounds logical and if there are other ideas out there.

Is it possible that it suicided on me? How would a suicided CPS1 board act?

thanks in advance

I'm not sure why you've come to the conclusion that the roms are faulty. It is much more likely to be a logic problem.

A suicided board would be completely dead.

Let this be a lesson to earth your cab. I hope you get the game going again.

I'm pretty new to PCB's I assumed that if the sounds worked and it was responsive to joystick and button pushed (by sound at least) that it would be graphics files that were screwed, no idea though, I am new to this.

The cab is grounded too btw, it's a New Astro City and has all the factory grounds running through the cab. The metal foot shorting it idea was just the best guess I could come up with based on my limited experience.

thanks for the reply and the info on how a suicided board would act.

Sounds like your C board is either faulty or the surface mount chip on it needs to be resoldered.

ok thanks, will focus my efforts on the c-board, the guy I bought it from had another copy of the game that didn't work, perhaps I can swap c-boards... fingers crossed!
