It's not really much of a surprise, given that the DS prints money, especially where RPG's are concerned.

Looks like a serious PSO takeoff, which is fucking awesome.

I can't wait to recreate my old RAcast.

Didn't know this was actually released in Japan already...

Any news on how it is?

Impressions I have read have been quite good.

There is a long ass trailer HERE with a lot of gameplay footage.

The techs, weapons, targeting and combat system are very reminiscent of PSO, which is fucking awesome.

That was all kinds of excellent.

Makes me want to play Blue Burst right now.

PSU was a major letdown for me so this is a great way to make it up.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I enjoyed the hell out of PSO, but was severely let down by PSU.

I'll wait for impressions and reviews before I bite on this. There will probably be plenty of RPGs to play as it is.

Winter '09 - does that mean Jan-Feb. or Nov.-Dec. of '09??

Anybody play PSPortable?

I've been playing this one quite a bit... and like gregN i was let down by psu and loved PSO

the good news is this game totally ditches almost everything about PSU and keeps all the great PSO stuff... much more of a coop experience than a item and EXP race. In fact everyone in the game gets their own items, whoring all the items is impossible :)

only part I don't like is you have to beat most of the stages in single player to unlock them online, which sucks as I didn't plan on playing the single player at all until the US version came out.

Great, we have something to look forward to then (except friend codes - :oh_no:)

I'll probably pick it up when it comes out then.

Would have prefered a straight out Phantasy Star but since that's probably never going to happen I'll settle for a new PSO. I'll definately be checking it out.

I thought winter was considered to be the beginning of the year, since it begins toward the end of December and lasts until March.

Does anyone know if they mean 1st quarter or 4th quarter 2009? Those are better ways to date releases.

It's dated for the end of '09, as in December. :(

Jake should post his impressions in here, since he's playing it now.

I may be importing it, I dunno. A year is a long fucking time to wait..

I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I'm leveling up on the train then playing it at night online with my friend.

The graphics took me a while to get used to, but now I'm into them. I think the environments look pretty cool. There is a good variety too.

There is WAY too much talking. Before every fight the characters all talk too much. I love story and everything, I just HATE having to read a novel before fighting monsters. I'm skimming the story now with my thumb on the skip button.

I'm playing a Raycaster. I think it's just a caste ranger.

I've been feeding my mag guns and it's now at level 62.

The game feels a lot like PSO and the online is solid. There are cool rare events that happen randomly that are pretty cool.

I'm 14 hours into it and having a great time. I haven't finished the story mode yet. I have 6 fields unlocked and they all are pretty fun with cool bosses.

The excess story text is kind of scaring me away from importing..

Then again, I can always skip the story since I know I'll be buying the English version when it comes out here.

The story never affects the missions or what you have to do. The missions are always just kill the monsters and defeat the boss.

Nobu and I have been playing a lot the last few days. I'm up to level 28. Some of the later levels have some pretty cool enemies.

Shit, Jake. I was excited about this one before, but once you said it's like PSO, I'm doubly so. I missed out on that one back in the day and I always regretted it. The idea of getting the same fix on the DS... That sounds fuckin sweet. :buttrock:

I'm going to start pretending this game doesn't exist because I'm getting too hyped for it and it's still so far away.

***************very minor spoiler alert**************************

I just beat the game, it took me around 20 hours. The last boss was great, the game balance is awesome. I felt like it was a really hard and fun challenge. After you beat the game a cool extra thing is unlocked. Very very cool.

I'm loving this game. I'm having a lot of fun grinding away on the train and then playing online with my friend and my brother. Highly recommend this.

I'm looking forward to this game. I truly miss the old PSO days. I tried PSU and just couldn't get into it. The artstyle of the game concerns me a little, but as long as it is a solid PSO experience, I can forgive it.

Awesome. I was a little worried about this one at first because of the art style used in the game (reminded me of the shitty transition of the Castlevania DS series which thankfully returned to form with the latest entry) but after hearing all the positive feedback this game has been getting it's definitely on my radar again.

I think damn near everyone was disappointed with PSU though. I wasn't aware that the DS version had online play! Do you have to pay for a hunter's license or whatever? Or is it free with friend codes?
