Still in doubt of buying a front loader or a CDZ. Regardless of my choice, i do know that i will place the console in my entertainment set, so there will not be a lot of free space surrounding it. Therefore, i'm checking out some notebook cooling pads to place the console on. I do need the meassurements for both consoles for that, also an expert opinion from you guys if this is a good idea or not is also appreciated.

Ok thanks guys. I do tend to only play shooters on it: pulstar, viewpoint and last resort and of course windjammers and street hoop. Wondering if this will make a great different, plus the front loader looks gigantically great..... hard call

Do you guys think the cooling pad is a good idea for the overheating prob?

I am not sure about the cooling pad. With laptops the base is used for dispersing heat, so the cooling pad is of direct benefit. However, with other equipment the heat is dispersed more consistently throughout the unit - so laptop cooling pads may not be that great a benefit.

What type of entertainment system do you have? While the front loader is quite large, it is the easiest to fit into many entertainment systems (well, mine at least) due to it loading from the front. Plus, it just looks cool.

Yes, also my main reasons for the front loader option are it's collectibility and the looks: Huge, with cd tray and also the neo logo on the front. It just looks powerfull, and i know it really is the opposite of that. A great disguise!

Well, i'll just stick with the front loader, i will only play the pre 96 games and pulstar on it anyway. Is it necessary to cool this one too, say if it has 5 cm free space on the top of it and on the sides?

My front loader runs very cool, I don't think it generates that much heat at all.

Also, I thought it was surprisingly light for its size. It's got nothing on the original Xbox or anything.

There really is no need for any sort of cooling solution for the front loader, or probably the CDZ for that matter (though I've never used one of those).

As long as you are not playing fighting games the front loader has very acceptable load times. For the most part it's fighting games, later ones especially, that have the horrible load times.

As long as you own a Neo Geo CD that's all that matters. I own the good old unbeateable and unbreakeable top loader single speed or whatever it is and I love it, yes I do own all the same titles for MVS and all, but who cares!? I love the NGCD and I don't mind the loading everyone talk so much shit about. I can roll a joint, smoke it, eat some munchies talk some smack and still have a great time.

The best time I ever had with metal slug was on the NGCD during a MASS crew meetup with OSG, Saturn2Dfreak and phantom, it was great, if there wasn't any "intermissions" I don't think we would have been laughing so hard! I was talking crap laughing and eating at the same time all the time in mummy mode 'cause Saturn kept stealing the elixirs so talk about mega slow in a megaslowdown from hell, I was like Neo and the NGCD was the matrix!

That's the greatness of the NGCD who cares if you have to wait extra 30 seconds or whatever it is from CDZ to normal NGCD, I don't really give a shit, but as long as there is love in this thread for the NGCD then all is well with the world.

Yeah you're right, and i tend to be a patient person anyway. The cd is really great to play a relaxed game, otherwise i'll just fire on the astro. I really regret selling the cd a year ago, but the front loader is on the way to replace it now!
