MVS Arcade Units: Unplugging vs Power Switch

I am enjoying my new Mini Neo Cabinet that I ordered from arcadestuff on ebay, but I noticed that the unit did not have a power switch on the back where the power supply goes. I looked all over the unit and found nothing.

There is a power switch inside the machine but if I switch it, the power goes off and it resets the memory on my board.

So, my question is...will unplugging and plugging my unit to turn it off and on cause harm to my Neo Board?? I've been doing that and it still retains the memory just fine, but decided to stop til I ask you guys. I was thinking that all a power switch does is literally cut the power to the unit..assumingly no different than pulling the plug temporarily. I dunno, maybe you all can shed some light on the subject..

Thanks

I essentually do that. I have the arcade cab on a surge protector and I just flip the switch when I want to play. There does not harm the machine in anyway in my experiences. Hope that helps.

I have my unit up against a wall so i cant get to the switch at the back of the machine to unplug as its too heavy to keep moving and I dont leave my machine on so I just switch of the plug in the wall and it seems fine, the only time I have lost memory is when I have unplugged whilst I am still playing the game but thats doesnt always happen but I think most people swich it off from thje plug socket itself instead of the swich behind the cab, after all thats what a plug is for <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Well, I don't think there are any shutdown tasks on a Neo Geo... so I don't think doing that will cause a problem. I guess that the worst that could happen is blow a fuse or the power supply if something goes wrong... probably highly unlikely even that will happen. I use the switch, and unplug it as well when I turn mine off (sometimes I just leave it on for a few days in a row though, if I know I will be playing). These things are really made to be abused, and are in arcades... I doubt you are doing any damage to it.
