I'm buying a Red Neo Geo cab next weekend and want to play some JAMMA boards on it. Mainly my Taito F-3 board. What is the easiest way to play JAMMA boards on my cab without damaging anything? Should I buy a JAMMA to neo geo adaptor for $26.00 online, or is there a simpler way to solder a wire in the cab to add the extra ground wire? The only difference is a ground wire for JAMMA compatable boards to keep them from overheating, right?

Get the jammaboards.com adapter. The difference is in the sound output, and the adapter takes care of splitting the mono sound from the JAMMA board to the stereo sound the cab harness needs.

I'm sure you could wire it yourself but it really isn't worth the effort, IMO, when there's already a good adapter to get the job done.

the adapter is probably the easiest way, but its also $30

i did it like this:

the plugs are + and - from each speaker.

one pair is jamma mono, and the other is mvs stereo.

it depends on what cab you are getting 1 and some 2 slot boards are standard jamma so your boards will plug right in (as long as the cab is wired jamma also)
you would just have to connect the -5v to your ps if needed and connect a second speaker to the jamma harness

Thanks for the help. I think I am just going to buy the adaptor. If I want to play capcom classic games would it be safe to hook the capcom classic adaptor, to the jamma adaptor that is connected in the neo cab?

What he said. You're likely wasting money if it's a single slot.

No, it's not jamma. Unless you have the 1 slot cabs that have jamma boards then yes.

Now i'm more confused. So some 1 and 2 slot neo geo cabinets can either be wired for JAMMA or Neo Geo, I just have to check. But also, some 1 and 2 slot motherboards can be Neo Geo or JAMMA compatable, it's all just random and I have to check the boards and the wiring in the cabinet? What is the easiest way to go about checking these?

So depending if my cabinet is wired for Neo Geo or JAMMA will determine if I do indeed even need a adaptor? So basically the 1 slot in the cabinet now must work, but if they are both JAMMA then I may need a Neo Geo to JAMMA adaptor, instead of a JAMMA to Neo Geo adaptor, just to play my 2 slot board.

To clear things up a bit, all multislot boards are stereo only.

All single slots are mono only with the exception of one or two models which have a switch to select mono or stereo sound on the PCB.

So when I buy this 1 slot cabinet and take out the board to put my 2 slot in it will I be able to have stereo sound? or am I going to have make some wiring adjustments to the harness?

As for the person who mentioned earlier to check the harness to see if it's JAMMA or Neo Geo, I understand that. But how do I determine by looking at the harness if it is JAMMA or Neo Geo?

Hopefully you all understand that I am not really literate when it comes to electronic wiring. Most of this sounds like Chinese to me. If someone could give me specific directions on how to tell if my system is wired for JAMMA or not, and how to tell if it is wired up to mono, how I would go about getting it to stereo for when I hook up my 2 slot board to the cab.

if its a 1 slot cab it should be standard jamma unless its a conversion
once you get it just take some snaps and post here to verfiy

depending on what 2 slot board you have some were standard jamma
and will have a 4 pin header on the board for stero sound (just like the 1 slot boards)
if its a non standard jama 2 slot then there are converters you can pick up to convert a neo non standard board to jamma

i really would preffer a standard jamma 1 slot cab and a 2-6 slot neo pcb with a converter better to buy 1 converter than 100 lol

Thanks, I'll have to post some pics saturday after I get this thing home. I asked the guy several times and he said it was a dedicated cabinet. He seemed to own quite a few cabs so I think he knew what he was talking about. It is missing the control panel overlay though. I will have to see the cabinet up close to make sure. Thanks again.
