How to prevent yellowing from light bulbs?

Technically I could have posted this in the other thread, but it's more of a seperate issue so I figured I'd give it it's own place. Basically I have a Naomi Uni, and I want to protect the artwork from getting sunfaded. Inside the Uni is an under cabinet fixture, and with most under cabinet fixtures they have a plastic cover on them. Well the plastic cover on this one has turned completely yellow. I can only begin to imagine what would make it this bad, but it's bad. And I've seen a ton of Uni marquees with faded artwork, so this leads me to believe these lights may be the cuplrits.

Does anyone here know of a way to protect the marquee artwork, while at the same time, lighting it? I was thinking maybe LED's, hoping their UV output is signifigantly lower than that of these fluorescent's.

Are you leaving it on all day, Every Day?

I don't think that normal home use would cause much yellowing... Compared to Arcade use...

You can always go with a lower intensity bulb.... That should help.

as i stated in your other thread go with cold cathode lights easy to hook up and less heat and more clean lighting = no fading or yelowing
also les power usage so cheaper power bill

i purchase mine from micro center online and they are 9.99 for 2 bulbs with all wireing to connect just cut off molex connector and wire into either 5v or 12 v depending on what bulbs you buy

for 12 v bulbs run wire from the coin door lights

i gotta check em out. I have a microcenter here but they wouldnt have the bulbs on display. Or in white, mostly. Otherwise I'd pick em up in a second. But I'm kinda pressed for time, I could always switch em to cc's after christmas.

my local mc has them in stock in white i actually just installed a set in a 4 slot and it turned out great (hence the 4 slot elpcb i posted in your other post lol)
ialso installed a set of blsck light cold cathode lights in a sf cab and it really looked sweet it really blew the colors of the marquee and made them super bright without emmiting to much light

the old halogen bulbs that most arcade machine emit quite some heat and that is motre than likley the cause of the yellowing (more than the uv anyway )

Uh... it's not visible light that causes it, but rather UV light.

Fluorescent bulbs DO put out more UV light than standard bulbs and sunlight is a LOT more than standard bulbs. You'll want to avoid standard fluorescent, compact fluorescent, and cold cathode tubes all together.
