Neo AES problem

Hi,

I just got a Jap AES as part of a lot on eBay. The unit was sold as working with a non-SNK 12V 1A power supply.

It says on the console to use a Pro-Pow-E power supply which I understand is a 9V unit. The console doesn't work at all with the 12V supply and with a Radioshack 9V all that happens is a buzz from the TV speakers and a flickering blue screen!?!

The console is in good cosmentic condition and has not been modded as far as I can tell.

Any thoughts? I could return the console but the rest of the stuff that came with it works fine.

Thanks.

well the adaptor needs to be the right voltage, ampage and polarity(going into the Neo). probably if the original adaptor was 9V then you'd set the adaptor to that(if it's one where you can set the voltage). in australia (power points 230V) you can also use a stepdown converter with the original Jap adaptor if you have it.

Unfortunately the original Japanese powersupply wasn't included so I'm having to guess a bit.

I've set the voltage to 9V and changed the polarity on my adapter but still no joy.

I'd buy a genuine SNK power supply and stepdown converter if I knew the console was fine but now I'm worried that there's a serious fault.

Thanks.

PS I have a US NTSC AES that works fine on UK 240V using a Euro SNK power supple but that only outputs 5V not 9V. Bummer.

It's ok now. I've sorted the problem.

It turns out it was a power supply issue. The power supply that I was given with the console was the wrong polarity so would never have worked!?!?

My Radioshack adapter was set up correctly but only puts out 300mA, not enough for the Neo hence the buzzing and flickering screen.

I dug out my old Atari Jaguar mains adapter, 9V 1.2A, and what d'ya know. Everything works perfectly.

Lesson learned - ProPowE = Atari Jaguar power supply :loco:

I just went to my local Fry's and bought a universal switching DC power supply that was rated for 1.2A of current. Once it was set it to 9v and the proper tip it worked like a champ!

I hope they never stop making those universal power supplies. They've saved many of my consoles / random bits of electro-junk over the years.
