PS2 Region lock- PAL, NTSC?

Does anyone know if PS2 games from the Australian PAL region can work on systems in all other PAL regions (eg an Italy PAL console)? ie is region locking on the PS2 only between US and Jap, or between US, Jap, PAL Euro and PAL Australia?

PAL is PAL. Australian software works on European hardware and vice versa. PAL software does not work on NTSC hardware however and NTSC software does also not work on PAL hardware.

do Japanese NTSC discs work on an unmodded US NTSC system?

Does anyone know if an Australian PAL PS2 game would work on a US NTSC PS3 console? Do PS3 consoles have region lock for PS2 games?(I'm guessing they do).

I think ps3 games are not region locked, but the ps2 games are still region locked when playing on a ps3.

PS2 games are region locked no matter what system you put them in. So PS2 games will only work on that region's PS3. PS3 games are not region locked. YOu can play those on any PS3 system from any region.
