I was interested in doing this, but I heard you have to up the voltage for the 6 slot. I also heard you can't adjust the voltage on the stock neo PSUs, are these true?

That depends on the cab.......and if the machine has it's original PSU
Both my Big Red and Candy Cab have adjustbable power suplies

The only can I owned wih a dial to adjust the power supply was my Tekken 3

6 slots are power hungry.

The 6 slot requires more amps than the 4 slot not volts.

What are the specs of your current PSU?

Well I dont actually have the Neo yet. It's a dedicated 4 slot, but the mobo is dead? And I have the opportunity to buy either a 2, 4, or 6 slot to replace it with, so I wanted to get my facts straight before I did something stupid.

I checked the Neo out this morning but the owner wasn't around. He says the mobo is dead, all that happens when you turn it on - the monitor powers up and the speakers come on, but no picture. I was figuring to see a Z80 error or something, but got just a blank screen. I'll hopefully get a look inside on monday.

so you get game sounds or just a crack of the speakers?
monitor gets power do you get static and ht?
does the game credit and play blind?
do you have a multimeter?
this is very easy to troubleshoot before buying a new mobo

No, no credit LEDs, and you just hear the speakers crack when they first power up - no game sounds. Monitor is definitely on tho.

Maybe the Power Supply is dead and the mobo good..

Power supply so bad that it's not putting enough volts to run the board.

I think the monitor just goes through the PSU not really powered by it..

Go figure on my Candy..the monitor has it's own AC plug wire..It only wires up to the AC on the candies PSU but doesn't use it..

Quick question, can I stick a competition joystick in an MVS or does it need a special type of joystick? I vaguely remember hearing it needed something special but I can't see that being the case.

It very well could be the PSU. Ill find out tomorrow.

Yes you can. I have them in my arcade 6-slot Neo-Geo MVS and have had no complaints.

Quick question, does the 6-slot still need more amps if I'm only using 4 of the slots? I don't know if I'd have time to get a new power supply here in time. :(
