Hey all, i just got a generic wood cabinet with a mvs 6 slot and 8 games. It pretty much works but needs a lot of TLC.

The audio is balanced but really quiet so i'm going to attempt to replace the caps on it although i haven't done much electronics work before so any advice would be good. I don't even know which caps are which although i guess you follow the traces from the audio jamma connectors to find them.

since this pic was taken i've cleaned the monitor front and glass, it was really dirty, the picture is much better now. Also replaced the bulb in the marquee.

I also want to put in a Super street fighter 2 cps2 board which i thought would be simple (it doesn't require -5v for audio apparently) but when i plug it in the game is playable but there is no sound at all. The wiring inside the cab is a mess and i'm a beginner, i'm trying to read as much as i can.

I guess that's the power supply on the right, but there is something connected to the monitor on the left which also looks like its supplying power. Everything works as i said but there are loose wires that i don't know what to do with.

So basically i'm asking for advice from anyone that's put a mvs 6 slot and SSF2T cps2 board in the same cab, and some general advice about wiring. All welcome!

6 slot neo are not jamma, the speaker connections are different pins if you want to keep swapping then you need an adaptor and rewire the edge connector to normal jamma

where do the green wire go in the cab?maybe this cab has been modified from jamma in the past and this is a speaker wire

the two wires from the monitor are the degauss power for your mtc9000 hantarex monitor
the other two wires that are connected go to 120vac on the transformer

You need to get an MVS>Jamma adpater. The audio pins on CPS2 is different from MVS. You could also use the audio out from the CPS2 A board but I think it requires an amp.

I hope your going to recut a new panel on that thing, as the button layout is bizarre and unfriendly to fighting games, which apparently you will be playing. Not sure about your sound problems though, and if you are new to wiring cabs, putting two boards in could be more work than you hoped to put into it.

ok sweet thanks for the advice so far folks.

looks like it'll be easiest to rewire the cab with a new jamma + kick harness and get an adaptor for the mvs. That way at least i'll know where everything is and what it does!

I will definitely be cutting a new control panel as this one has already made my wrist hurt just from playing puzzle bobble.

thanks again.

I take it you've tried adjusting the volume w/the lever on the 6 slot? Perhaps your cab has another knob for sound adjustment elsewhere?

I've found the slider on the mvs motherboard and maxed that out and its really quiet still. There is a remote control panel inside near the front controls, but they are all for the monitor, which i have now tweaked for quite a sweet picture :) considering the monitor is from 1991!
