I just got a house of the dead machine, and the monitor has a problem. At least I think its the monitor, and not the gameboard, as I can still heear the sound. When the game boots up, the monitor just shows a thin white horizontal line across the center, and that fades after several seconds.

Any ideas?:conf:

depends on the model,i reckon its a ms9-29a chassis
the white lines denotes vertical frame collapse, this is caused by either bad solder joints(around the yoke connector, flyback or remote board),missing feed voltage to the vert deflection ic or the vert deflecton ic itself

if its something you just aquired then my bet is bad solder joints aggravated during transport

If this was the same problem I had, which it could be, then it's a major pain in the ass to fix.

On my Nanao, there was a very tiny resistor that was the cause of the vertical collapse. Sounds like a simple fix, right? Wrong. This resistor is in the single worst place any resistor could possibly be on a pcb. There's a large metal shield right in the center of the board, L shaped. in the very corner of the board, mashed between two caps is this resistor. If I remember correctly it was a 2.2k, but don't quote me on that. I just cannot get over how hard it was to replace because the L shaped shield stands tall, so you have to use extra long needle-noses or something similar to place the new one in.

The only thing that differers between your problem and mine is that the horizontal line in the center didn't fade away, so this sounds like a bigger problem. Let's pretend theres no vertical collapse, what would make the picture fade out? Flyback?

I also want to point out that the Nanao I repaired was the dedicated one that ships with VF1-2 cabinets. I have a feeling this was the same one used in HotD, and it's not the MS9-29a. But I could be wrong about that, HotD may house a 29".

ms8 suffered from that resistor and a cap,the later ms9 would shut down with a vert frame collapse
be interesting to see a pic of the chassis,if you are u.k then its a ms9-29a for sure

Yeah, Im in the UK, will post a pic of the chassis tommorow.

Can anyone recommend someone in the UK who can repair the chassis? If there are potentially multiple possibilities for the fault, I would rather just get it repaired professionally.:oh_no:
