Ok, so I finally get this game I bought off of ebay and only the 2nd player works.

I've tried multiple guns and I get the same issue. When on second player, it shoots perfectly. When it's first player and you pull the trigger, the whole screen flashes but you don't hit anything that you are pointing at. I got the same thing when I plugged a gun in backwards on another game. (yes, the gun is in the right way now, lol)

Anyways, what would cause this? Maybe a bad trace on the little plug where the gun plugs into the board?

any advice would be appreciated!!

Usually the problem with the gun sensor is improper +5v going to the board. Since trying working guns causes the same issue, I'd check the voltage from the PCB to the gun board and see if the connectors are working properly (I assume this is an arcade game you're talking about).

there's no gun board and turning the +5v up or down does nothing. Lethal Enforcers works on the same cab with both players.

First, isolate whether this is a board issue or a gun issue. Plug the one player gun into the two player port to see if it still does not work. If it doesn't then it's a gun issue.

If it's a gun issue, then it's most likely the photo transistor needing replacement.

nah, the gun is perfect. It always worked in player 2, but not in player one. I tried a few guns and it was always the same. No shot (just a screen flash) on 1p, but perfect 2p.

So how would I trouble shoot this board issue?

It all depends on what game it is!

You don't give us enough information.

For Eggventure I'd say you have a bad FPGA chip on the board. VERY easy to fix if you can find the VERY expensive FPGA chip on a donor board somewhere.

There are some Sega games that have a board the guns plug into - and that little board is a pain in the ass.

the game is Lord of Gun. It's a single board with 4 pin male setups for light guns just like lethal enforcers etc...
