I've been playing my big red for about 3 months now with no problem. Tonight as I left the cab running (about 40 min.) the screen started to experience a series of vertical waves that managed to be in the middle of the cab. This leaves one side of the cab with normal picture and the other half with vertical waves that are constant, no misc. colors just a fade of which ever screen is appearing at that particular moment. I'm confused as I have yet to have experienced this with my big red.

This is what I see, literally like an ocean wave going vertical (in the middle) up my cab.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys.

A picture would be good

First thing that comes to mind is an electro cap in the monitors power supply stage

I'll post one as soon as I can, this shit is just frustrating. ERRRR, I'm thinking it may be a ground wire (from video) issue, or something on the back of the monitor is off key. (Yoke possibly?) Maybe I'm in need of a cap. kit?

If you have the same monitor I have in the gold cab, you need the 7000 series cap kit that bob roberts sells for about $7-$8 if I remember correctly. I put one in the gold cab and the picture is awesome now. If you need a copy of the monitor manual...I have that as well.

Bump

After trying to take a few good pictures to show the vertical waves located in the center of my screen (moving upwards), none of my dozen or so pics show anything in the picture itself worth posting.

I did manage to get a few good pics of the back of the monitor and the accompanying circuit boards. Hopefully with these pics I will be able to figure out what cap. kit to pick up from Bob Roberts. I've been told it's a k7000 series, but problem is the k7000 series has a few cap. kits available and aren't just specific anymore, and I want to be sure to purchase the right one. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all that I've talked to about the monitor so far, your help has been great.

that's one of the many chassis that cropped up in the early 90's based around the hantarex mtc9000,i reckon yours is a sharp image chassis and its very similar to the kortek chassis of the time
look for any writing on the chassis that says anything like SI329
it will be an electrolitic cap causing this and most likely either on the b+ filter or in the deflection circuit
on pic no.3 you can see the large mains smoothing cap at the back and infront of that what i expect to be the vert deflection ic-certainly change the caps around that vert ic and look around that mains smoothing as it looks like the board is suffering some kind of leakage there
first thing to do of course is to id this chassis model number and then see if a cap kit exists for it-then you can do all the caps in one go

Thanks Grant. The only #'s I can see are:

On the monitor itself it says: Zenith G-A63ADG25X
04RC0105-009

The OEM serial also on the monitor was: 092510

The serial # on the side of the chassis (alongside the fan on the board) Says: 92051418

the tube sticker only gives information to the tube itself,i know from this its a 25" tube
the other number just looks a stock serial number

right this is almost identical
http://therealbobroberts.net/monitor78.html

but yours may be an a-one chassis, somewhere embossed on the board will be the make-i guess you will need to unbolt and look carefully

i do remember someone else a long time ago on killercabs had the same chassis as you and we had problems trying to id it

like i said earlier that mains smoothing cap looks suspect
i think also if you take a good look at this chassis it has the look of a wells gardner k7000 in its layout-so this is a real mishmash hybrid

Thanks for the help. When I get some time I'm going to take out the board and give it a once over, and look for any clues to help determine what board it is.

i cannot id this perfectly but it is identical(but back to front) to the link i gave you from bob roberts
i think if you contact bob roberts with the info and your pics i think he will id this

i am sure this is a copy of one of the wells gardner k7000 chassis and its either made by sharp image, kortek or a-one

sorry i can't be of more help

Thanks for all the help man, much appreciated. I will e-mail Bob Roberts a few pics. I came across this pic on his website: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/kortek.html I'm curious because the neck board read Kortek on mine and the boards look similar.
