Hi, hope some of you could clear this up for me.

On ebay.co.uk there is an auction for KOF 2001 for the AES. It's the Jap version, but in the description it says that it will not work on a PAL AES (my AES is PAL).

I emailed this to the seller:
All AES games should work on any AES system no matter what region

This is the sellers reply:
Hi,
You're correct for all SNK releases... However, since Playmore took over the whole of Neo-Geo after SNK's collapse in 2001 all home releases have been NTSC compatible only. Even the US releases have had 'NTSC ONLY' warning labels on the inserts. Something you would not see on a US release under SNK (because the carts were coded to be PAL compatible).

The games affected are:
KoF 2001
Metal Slug 4
Rage of the Dragons
KoF 2002
And one assumes New Power Instinct (not released until Easter) will be the same.

Although I have not tested the game on a PAL unit (I specialise in Japanese AES games and equipment), I've read several reports saying the cart displays
distorted graphics and sound. I hear it's just about playable...
I've seen MS4 running on a PAL unit and the sound is distorted and the graphics
show loads of glitches.(end quote)

This is the first I've heard of this.
Can someone confirm this please.

NTSC or PAL is not an issue with the carts. Its the Home System consol itself.

Well if that's the case why will all SNK releases work fine on either PAL or NTSC units, but the Playmore releases are NTSC only?

Playmore have changed something about the way they manufacture the carts, and their releases will not work properly on PAL units.

Somebody started a thread on this when KoF 2k1 was released... Anyway just check out the US inserts at the Neo-Store - they're all labeled NTSC only.

Anyway most european Neo systems are 60Hz NTSC with scart RGB...

PAL 50Hz systems are quite rare, and most of them are now modded to ntsc with a few jumper changes.
