Hey guys, any help would really be appreciated.

Had a 6 slot delivered this morning. Can't get it working at all.

Whenever It boots I just get a screen full of glitchy squares. The odd one moves but they're mostly stationary -

Inserting different games sometimes adds different coloured squares.

Everything else I've used works fine in the cab. Neo 1 slot. CPS2. PGM. Jamma Megadrive.

Please tell me it isn't DOA and I've overlooked something really obvious!.. I can't go back to a 1 slot after being this close to a 6. :crying:

Check your +5V at the board, NOT the power supply. If it's below 5, crank it up to about 5.05 to 5.1V.

The cab is wired for Jamma. I was going to pick up one of those NeoGeo MVS adapters from jammaboards.com if the thing was working. From what I understood it was mainly an audio issue. I thought I'd be able to get more than a few glictchy squares through a straight jamma connection. Do you reckon it would cause issues such as this?

I haven't reset the bios no. I'm still fairly new to this but I'll look into giving that a go. Same goes for changing the power input. I had a feeling it might be a power issue as the thing is so damn big, but it's not something I've really ever tried before.

You'll have to separate the boards to get in there and reseat the BIOS chip. Be careful not to bend any pins to where they don't make contact with the socket.

You should first check the voltage levels and adjust them before anything else as that's the most likely problem. Use a digital multimeter when adjusting it and measure the voltage at the board and not at the output of the power supply.

Thanks!

I'll pick up a multimeter during the week and give that a go.

Noob question number 1 - Where are the best spots on the board for taking the multimeter reading from?

Noob question number 2 - My PSU doesn't seem to have any way of adjusting the power output. Is there any way of doing this on the board?

Maybe a beginner's guide to electronics would be a worthy purchase to go along with the multimeter...

Anyway, thanks again.

You should switch to a real arcade style power supply with a voltage adjust knob, if you don't have one. I would take the reading right on the jamma pins. You should be able to touch them with your multimeter leads even when connected to the harness.

Be careful not to cross your multimeter leads when taking the measurement or you could short something out.

No....

Just that I see a lot of problem occur when MVS boards are hooked into a Jamma cab..
But nothing like your having..

6 slots are power hungry so I say you need a better adjustable power supply..(as said)

Finally got a multimeter reading on this. 4.73v.

I guess it's time to find a new PSU. Thanks again for the info guys. I'd have been lost without ye.

Always remember them 6 slot boards can be tempermental beasts at best when it comes to certain games. Fortunately it looks like you found the problem with the power supply. As someone else suggested, get a PSU with an adjustable +5v knob so you can fine-tune it properly.
