The good:

- It's like a cross between the gameplay of Astro Warrior and the character design of a Sonic the Hedgehog or Mega Man. The isometric view is cool, and the quasi-polygonal robotic art style has a great feel to it.

- Surprisingly well designed levels.

- Easily some of the best music on the Neo.

- I got it for a *disgustingly* cheap price as part of a blind lot.

The bad:

- This game is like black tar heroin. I have a $20-in-fake-quarters-a-day habit at least. Same with my fiancee and her brother. I've started tying a tourniquet around my arm while playing. :D

- Coop mode via soft dip is fun (I actually like that there are no additional powerups), but since you don't get bumped back after dying like in alternate mode, you have to manually limit yourself to a certain number of credits to not accidentally ruin the game for yourself by mindlessly plowing thru bosses (like I did with Shock Troopers 2nd Squad). The continues variable in soft dip didnt seem to solve this, tho maybe it was all the heroin fogging my judgement.

Discuss.

I like Viewpoint to a certain extent, as I also like to be able to eventually beat the games I play. Viewpoint I can get to a certain point before I just totally give up and never play the game again. I have been at that point for almost a year now. Maybe, I'll fire up the Neo CD and play it, but I don't know. The sound and graphics are amazing, I won't argue there, but either I totally suck at this game, or the game is just a tad bit to difficult for me to actually enjoy.

I'm not a huge shmup fan (don't jerk off to pics of complete Cave kits), but I still get a lot of play out of my Viewpoint cart. Yes, it's difficult, but even considering that, the game is just a lot of fun to play and look at. The graphics have held up well over time and there are a lot of creative enemies in the game. It probably doesn't have the broad appeal that the Sonic Wings/Aero Fighter games do.

It has been a while since I played Viewpoint, but I remember thinking the pace was pretty slow....

Hyper setting in softdip gives it a definite kick in the pants. Also, once you get to level 3 (with the insect theme), you'll want a breather regardless of the game speed setting.

I consider Viewpoint to be one of the best shooters for the Neo. I agree with you astar, continuing ruins the game. In order to truly persevere in any arcade game; you must never continue.

I'm not sure about that whole megaman/sonic deal though, I never thought about it that way.

I don't know about mega man either, but the only thing Viewpoint shares with Sonic is some of the psuedo 3d stuff, like sonic had psuedo 3d trees and stuff.

Does anybody know, is the MVS soft dips the same as the Cd version options?

The analogies were only from an art perspective, basically. Regarding the Mega-Man analogy, I'm just referring to the use of mechanized android animals for enemies. I guess I've always had a soft spot for that sort of thing.
